I have tons of books that focus on infants and babies but I REALLY need some good toddler books as Ryan seems to have hit the whiny, cranky, tantrumy terrible twos at 18 months and I need some help! Anyone have a suggestion or two for some good parenting books?

thanks,
Karen

Burton White - Raising a Happy, Unspoiled Child.

I also like 1-2-3 Magic, but haven't really tried it yet as it is really for ages 2+ (and probably won't help you).

Books by John Rosemond were recommended to me. Here's his website:

I borrowed a book of his from the library a year ago, or so, and I liked it.

Another good book I have currently is called 'Parents in Charge', and I'm getting some good tools from that. The author is Dana Chidekel

Hi Karen,

My son is 19months old and these are two books which have been very helpful for us:

1) Love and Logic Magic for Early Childhood by Jim Fay

This book has very specific strategies for decreasing tantrums, encouraging positive behavior, offering choices, and making the most of learning opportunities. Very easy to read and apply. I love the examples they give of specific phrases...too avoid being too wordy, especially with an irate toddler!

2) 123 Magic
Another great resource for easy to apply strategies and works well with Love and Logic techniques. Recommended for use with ages 2-12. So your child may be too young for it, but can help you to prepare for the next few months and perhaps thinking about the idea of counting and time-outs.

Good luck and hang in there! We have been working hard on introducing some these things with our son in the last couple of months and are starting to see their positive impact on his behavior. And perhaps even more importantly, I feel like I have some better parenting tools in my pocket!
