We're going to get a wading pool for Ds this summer. Any suggestions about what/where to get one and ESPECIALLY what not to get?

From my days, I remember blow up ones with rings, hard-side ones, hard-side with a little slide...ones that turn into sand boxes, etc. etc.

We have an excellent Whale one we bought at TRU last summer for our dd. It's blow up, but we have an air compressor so that wasn't an issue for us.

We like it a lot it has a big tail that dd likes to sit on and you hook it up to the hose and it has a "sprinkler" as a blowhole on one side of the pool. This was the best feature last summer for our then 1yo. We are planning on using it again this summer.

I have a friend with the Whale Pool and the bottom is too slippery for little kids.... our almost 2 year olds were slippin and sliding! I favor the hard kiddie pools... they have grooves or patterns in the bottom that help with traction control... but try to find one with a plug that helps with draining... the smaller ones usually don't and it's hard to empty them! We got one for DS's 1st b-day party last year and it had a little built in slide... it was GREAT.. plenty of room for a few kids and toys etc.! We bought it at Toys R Us... I saw that they were getting pools in now so you should probably go and check them out soon! Another thing to think about with the blow up ones is that they can get punctured... do you ahve a dog that might attempt to jump into the pool? Also you would need a bicycle pump or something to blow them up.... take it from me.... I blew up our friends whale pool and I thought I was going to pass out!!!! LOL hope that helps!

We had no problem at all with slipping last year. Dd ADORES this pool and the sprinkler part of it especially. I agree that using a bike pump to blow it up would be painful. For us it is fine since we have the air compresser.

We have a great pool by Step 2 that we got at TRU. It's hard plastic, but it has a plug on the side, so it is very easy to drain the pool. You can also purchase a separate slide to go with the pool. The pool is called Big Splash Center, and we can fit several kids and a parent in it.
