Hi -

My son is approaching 1 year-old and as of yet have not participated in classes. Looking for recommendations for Music and gym classes.

Thanks -

Well, I have my own personal feelings about places like Gymboree, mainly because they have some rules that kind of "hurt" parents of multiples. However, let me recommend that you start with a playgroup of some kind, rather than going directly to a class that you have to pay for. You may get just as much out of it, and you'll meet other moms in San Diego (I am one!).

Consider the YMCA when you child is a bit older. My DD has taken a couple of gymnastics classes at our local Penasquitos YMCA when she was one year old and had a blast! They offer classes for as young as 14 months. It's called "Gymventures" at our Y. It's parent participation, and didn't cost an arm and a leg. They offer classes in blocks. I bet the other YMCA's offer classes too if PQ is too far for you. And you don't have to be a member to participate (just pay a little extra). Check these websites for more info:

Another suggestion resource you may want to consider (if you've already not heard of it) is The Parent Connection. This is a program offered through Scripps Health. I found my playgroup through this. It may also offer you some leads for a music/play class. I know that in its monthly newsletter, it has ads on various music classes throughout SD county, not just Gymboree. Here's their website:

Good luck and hope this helps.
