We are interested in taking a vacation in May or June with our 14-month old and 37-month old children. In addition to our family of four, one set of grandparents would like to join us. Ideally, we'd like to go somewhere warm and relaxing. A resort/location that would allow us to settle in one place would be ideal. I'd love some suggestions for a destination!

My husband & I have gone to Key Biscayne in the Miami Beach area with our daughter. We stayed at the Sonesta and it was a very nice, family friendly resort. We are going again this year, we'll be trying the Ritz-Carlton resort on Key Biscayne, normally very expensive, but we got a great deal on libertytravel.com so we're going for it! Miami has an incredible zoo and a very nice aquarium for children. Also Parrot Jungle and Monkey Jungle (have not been there yet, but probably will this year.) In addition to the beach & water activities, there is also Bayside Market place - basically an outdoor mall but they have activities planned for families as well. Just writting this I am getting VERY excited for our June vactation! :)

Just an update - we are now staying at the Fontainbleau Hilton - they have added a new attraction "Cookies Water park" it's quite nice and it looks like my little girl would love it. So that's where we'll be! :)

We took our (then) 18 month old to Chincoteague Island/Assateague Island, VA last year and we had a great time. We rented a house which made naptimes and mealtimes easier. The beach itself is located on Assateague which is great because there is no commercialism, it's a wildlife reserve. We went to the beach every morning, then came home for lunch and nap. Afternoons were spent bicycling, touring the island, going out for ice cream, walking. It was very family friendly. Good luck!

This doesn't quite fit the OP's needs, but we've had a lot of fun taking our daughter on train rides. There are some really great places to go - in addition to the famous Durango & Silverton, there's a terrific ride in CO/NM called the Cumbres & Toltec. In fact, we did a whole vacation one year travelling to train-related sites in Colorado.

Another favorite ride is the Skunk Train in northern California. It goes between Willits and Fort Bragg. Fort Bragg, which is on the coast just north of Mendocino, has some really great seashore complete with wild sea lions. You could easily spend a week in this area taking in the great natural atmosphere and the classy restaurants and shops.

San Diego California... check a website called Trip Advisor for travelers reviews on different resorts and hotels for all over... not just SD! In addition to having nice beaches SD has Sea world (which our son loved!), the world famous SD Zoo, Wild Animal Park and not too far away Lego Land! Mexico is not too far either! Pick aplace with a decent pool area.... maybe hilton San Diego resort OR Loews Coronado Bay OR Hotel del Coronado!!! Just a suggestion!

Triple E, are you there? I'm also thinking of Miami/Key Biscayne and was wondering how your trip went.

I am very interested in hearing about your train locations, because our boys think trains are in and we have a little girl who is 2 -- the boys are 3 and 4. Locations please.
