going to Europe--will be staying with friends so not renting cars and will need a carseat. My child has always travelled in one on a plane--can sleep in it so I am thinking I want to take it (I know it will involve some lugging around but I have a backpack carrier strap for it which is great). Any other options you have tried that were successful?? Am I crazy for taking it? Should I just buy one there and leave it behind?

There is a product that attaches to the back of your carseat, essentially converting the carseat into a dolly-like stroller for getting around the airport. It's called a TravelMate, and is made by GoGo Kidz. They now have one for carseats other than Britax:
