Now that I know it'll work, I'm off to shop for good dyes. :)

I just used Dylon dye (1.99 from Jo-ann's) to dye some play silks and they turned out great. The colors were bold and it was easy to use. (I did mine all in plastic ziploc bags! Just filled a large gallon sized bag 1/2 way with warm water, added the salt it called for, mixed the dye in a few cups of water then added that to the bag, tossed in the silks and sealed the bag with minimal air inside. I then taped the bag close just to be on the safe side and put it inside another ziploc bag.....rolled the bag around for 15 minutes it called for, and then let sit occasionally swishing it around for the hour it needed. Rinse and thats it! The colors were great and perfectly even, and best of all, no mess!) When I find my camera Ill post pictures so you can see how great the colors are, and there was no bleeding and they appear to be extremely colorfast.
Other ideas for dyes is I think DharmaTrading company? something like that. :)

Sarah, you don't know about http://www.dharmatrading.com ? It's your kind of place. If you don't already get their paper catalogs, you should contact them. Lot's of stuff to drool over.

Great idea!
I'm curious- what material is the cover made of, nylon? Have you washed it yet?

What's the cover made of? It looks like a cross between a Prorap and a Bumpy! and you can't beat the price. How do they work? Do you have to go to annoying BRU to get them?
Have you washed it yet? Fading? Bleeding?
Can I ask any more questions?? :P

Karen, I DO know about Dharma Trading and have been avoiding it because of my certainty that it's just as you said, my kind of place. I used to be a weaver and found that getting to pet and **dye** all the lovely yarn was half the fun.
As for the cover, the tag says "Cover: 100% Cotton, Middle: 100% Vinyl, Lining: 100% Nylon." I'm fairly certain that these are the covers that Linda mentioned awhile back as being Bumpy-like and they are. For the price, I like 'em a whole lot better than Proraps and they seem to perform well. I probably wouldn't use one as an overnight cover but I wouldn't use a Prorap that way either. Oh, and yes Anna, you will have to go to BRU if you want these.
I've washed the cover twice. The color hasn't faded any but I'll proably do another 2 or 3 washings before I trust that it's colorfast and throw it in with my diapers.

I love the color! I'm going to have to try dying something after the holidays. Your thread has inspired me.

Ooh! We may have just found our NB cover! I'll have to check out BRU for these. I'm HOPING to have my knitting skills up to par and knit up several soakers for #2, but I want cheapo, easy covers till I'm more certain how bad poop blowouts will be in cloth ;) I love wool, but I HATE washing it too often - especially with poop on it!
Thanks for the tip!!
