We're looking to upgrade to probably a front-loader, possibly a HD machine. Of course, we want something that will be totally compatible with our fluff!

The details... the previous owners of this house turned the utility-type room into an office, and had the laundry moved upstairs into the dressing area of the master suite. DH saw the house (I didn't until it was ours), and didn't realize that they had a Kenmore HD3 unit stacked there -- he thought it was a small, apartment type stacking unit, so he didn't want to even ask them to leave it. So, right now, we have the washer downstairs in the utility room and the dryer up (we were going to put both in the utility room, but the gas line doesn't go there anymore...).

So, whatever we get will have to stack -- the available space isn't quite big enough for them to go side-by-side. The Kenmore HD3 machines will clearly stack and fit... how are they? And does anyone know enough about the HD4s to know that they would work, and if they're of similar size?

We're fortunate in that we're getting whatever we choose as a housewarming gift, so any and all ideas are welcome!!!!!

Also, we've not had any problems with our water... though we use very little Tide. Anything we'd need to watch out for in the switch?

TIA!!!!!

We have the He3t set and love it. Can't go wrong.

If you do a search, you will find lots of threads about front loaders both in this forum and in The Lounge.

Lots have the Kenmores & seem to love them.

We ended up getting the Whirlpool Duet pair when my washer died (may it rest in peace) because we had a friend that got us a great deal thru a local appliance store (Kenmore is only available at Sears of course) anyway, being delivered today so I'll have to figure out my new washing plan of attack w/this new machine!!!

We love our Kenmore HE3 set, and they can definitely stack. We got them from a Sears Outlet store, so they were of the scratch and dent variety. Some cosmetic scuffs, but nothing major and we got them each for ~$350 less than the original price.

I have the Kenmore HE3 machine, and I like it alot! I wish there was an easy way to check for suds in the rinse, like with a toploader, but I am committed to saving water and energy. We've been using it for DS's entire life, so 9mo of CDing, and it gets the dipes clean! I have buildup right now, but that's due to moving and trying to figure out new water, not the machine.
