View Full Version : Does the diaper bag have to match the sex of the baby?

Kind of a stupid question, but we are not finding out the sex of the baby and I really like a diaper bag that has mostly pink in it. Would it be bad to have a mostly pink bag if it is a boy or it doesn't really matter?

Hmm. Not a stupid question. Kind of a matter of philosophy, actually. Is it your bag or the baby's bag? You carry it, but it is a part of your baby's gear ... A lot to think about, actually.

But, if it were me, I'd come down to the idea that I'm the one carrying the bag, so it should reflect my sense of style (or it would, if I, in fact, had a sense of style to speak of, but that's not important right now. :) ). Much the same way it would be my decision if I wanted to try to match the bag to my outfit or my shoes or the stroller or whatever.

So, I'd say, if it's your bag, and you want to have a nice bright pink bag, and you end up with a baby boy that's just fine.

You might also find some insightful responses in the Places to Go: All Other To-Go Gear! (Diaper Bags, etc) forum.

Good luck!

Just had to say, Karen, that you may not have a sense of style, but your avatar shows that your DD sure does! :)

Not at all! I'm of the opinion that it is your bag. You will be carrying it. When the baby carries his/her own bag, they can be as picky as they want about the color :D

I don't know why, but your little post just gave me the smile of the day. Thanks, Juliet! :D

Nope. It should match the sex of the person carrying it. :)
Then again, my dh carries the silky looking chartreuse kecci shanghai mommy bag. hahah.

Hee hee. :)

It's lucky for her, but in my case the sense of style gene skipped a generation. I see fashion as a spectator sport, much like competitive figure skating -- I like to watch, but much as I admire the skill of the participants, I lack both the training and the natural aptitude to attempt it myself. ;)

I suppose there's always hope that I'll pick up some from DD. I've already started to care more about diaper bags than I ever did about purses.

I used to think yes. I couldn't imagine carrying a pink diaper bag when I had a boy baby. But 2 years later, I am getting ready to buy a pink diaper bag! I am sick and tired of carying around blue and black diaper bags. I feel so un-feminine with them on my arm.. And the real clincher? I never get to carry around my own pretty stylish purse anymore, because frankly, who can carry a diaper bag, child, and purse too? So I know feel my diaper bag is a purse replacement, so it should be as pretty as I want it to be...boy baby or not!
