We didn't start CD'ing until dd was almost 2 yo, so I don't have any experience with a newborn. I already ordered my FBs, but was curious how many inserts I'll need. Do I need 2 for each diaper, or can I get away with one?

Thanks!

I only used FBs for overnights during the newborn months - how I miss it :( Anyways, I needed at least 2 -3 inserts (joeybunz) for overnight or I'd use my favorite insert - a small Nighty Newt soaker from www.littlelounginglizards.com

Honestly, during the day, I found that infant prefolds and prorap covers were the easiest option - especially when breastfeeding and all the frequent changes.

I would think that since a newborn gets changed so frequently, one would be enough. It isn't until they start sleeping longer stretches at a time that you would need more absorbancy and add a second insert, right?

We started CDing at 6 months, so I'm not speaking from experience, just theoretical. :)

i would use prefolds as inserts. if you ordered small FBs, you might want premie prefolds. the infant prefolds fit into the mediums perfectly. use the 4x8x4 and you probably won't need any more absorbancy for a while. you could get some JBs or other hemp inserts to use with the infant prefolds for overnight. we used one infant prefold and one JB for 10-12 hour nights for several months, maybe even a year, before we needed more absorbancy.
