My 5 wo DD has a slight diaper rash that I want to head off before it becomes worse. Are there any diaper rash creams that I should NOT use with CD? We currently have Desitin and Johnson&Johnson. Can we use one of those or should we get something else (without having to order it)?
Thanks,
Mariah P.

You can use anything that doesn't say it has "fish oil" or "cod liver oil" in it. But only because it wil stain your diapers, leaving grey marks. But that's not always the case. We use Desitin (which has the fish oil in it), on occasion, and have never had stains. But I know many people do get stains, and sometimes a waxy build-up on their diapers.

The cremes that don't have the oil in it are: Balmex, Aquaphor (not a creme, but works for rashes), and one other I am forgetting right now...it might be J&J.

DON'T use Butt Paste! It doesn't say it has fish oil in it and I thought someone on here said it was fine to use, so I went out and bought some a few days ago and now all my diapers have brown stains in them :(. Then I read the fine print on the box and it actually said that it will stain clothes! I also got stains from using the Walmart brand of Desitin, which does have fish oil in it. To prevent diaper rash, I use Rash Mist, which is a liquid that you spray on. It doesn't stain. The only place I've ever seen it is at Walmart. It's about $2.50 for a bottle and that lasts us one month.

I love the Burt's Bees diaper creme. No fish oil and it smells like lavender, doesn't stain at all. Most health food stores sell it ,but it is a little pricey, I only use it as neccessary.

Thanks. We will have to go out and get some of these others that were mentioned and see what works best. My DS has never had a diaper rash, so this is a new ballgame for us.
Thanks,

I swear by Triple Paste. This stuff works miracles and doesn't hurt my prefolds. DON"T use ANY petroleum based product on a fleece pocket or fleece-lined diaper though. It can cause them to repel moisture.

Triple Paste is usually available in the pharmacy but sometimes they have to special order it (it's not prescription though).

Best!

If it does (this happened back when I was using vaseline as a barrier cream), just wash your fleece with Dawn dish soap. Works like a charm.

We really like the California Baby diaper creme (I get it at Whole Foods, but have seen it other places). We tried Burt's Bees when we switched to cds, but I have always had a problem with it building up on the suedecloth on the inside of my diapers, and it has stained a few (although after 10-12 washes, they seem to be gone). The California Baby never leaves any residue for us and it smells very good too.
