View Full Version : Make your own fleece "poop" liners?

I have been using disposable liners, but want to make some thin fleece ones soon. What kind of fleece? I use mostly pocket dipes - so could I just use say a JB insert as a pattern - maybe a little smaller? TIA!

P.S. Maybe it is cheaper to buy these already made?

Microfleece is what I use. I don't use them with pockets though, just prefolds. I'm not sure what advantage you'd get using liners with pockets, if any. Actually, would there be a disadvantage with having an additional layer between the baby and the JB?

Anyway, I got my microfleece at JoAnn's. It's about $10/yard, not on sale, and I get 20 or so per yard.

I have some that are just fleece from JoAnns (at the time (season), there was no micro), and some that are micro. Only difference is that the non-micro is thicker.

We just cut out rectangles. I think they were something like 5"X12" to start with, but they shrink appreciably with time (it takes many many washes... they were all prewashed to start with!). (They're still fully functional at the current size, but I would still cut them the above size to start with!)

We sometimes use them with pockets overnight. The fleece won't hold the pee, so there's just an extra boundary layer for the times the inserts are really, really full!

Yes, I've started using the fleece liners with my pockets for a couple of reasons. The first is that when she poops, it's just easier for me to spray the liner than the pocket. But that's just a personal preference. The other is exactly what Cheryl said--when I use them overnight and she does a supersoaker routine, it provides and extra boundary for Kaya and it seems to work quite well.

I made some of these out of WalMart fleece, and they seem to soak through as soon as DS poops. While the majority of the poop lands on the fleece (how exactly does he manage to poop AROUND the liner?!?!), I still have stains on the diapers. Do you think it is just cheap WalMart fleece? There is a JoAnn's Super Store opening near here soon, so maybe I can get some micro fleece to try.

This is exactly why I like the idea. Most of the time Olivia's BM's are firm and just fall right off of the fleece dipe with no rinsing - but the other say 20% of the time they are very sticky and wet and do not come off easily w/o leaving the dipe to soak in the toilet for a bit. Then I feel like I'm getting "poop particles" inside the pocket and that bugs me for some reason? It's easy enough to keep using disposable liners, but with 2 soon I figured I'd jsut make some. Thanks for the how-to!

Oh wow, congratulations on #2! I don't think your signature of the happy event ever registered in my mind. That's great! Can't wait to share in your joy. :)
