Should I be bothered by the fact that DS's daycare seems to put cream around his anus - pretty close to the poop chute? It doesn't seem right to me. I've seen them putting it on other kids after a poop diaper (applied with tounge suppressors), but haven;t seen them ACTUALLY putting it on DS. I do see evidence occassionally while changing a diaper or bathing him at home. When I apply cream, it's usually on the cheeks and right where his leg meets his penis - as a barrier to prevent chafing. Is that what you do? Do you put cream around the anus? Am I stressing over nothing? Add this to the category of "if only kids came with instructions".

If Colin is red there, then I put diaper cream there. I do not use it if he is not red (so not at every change). Colin doesn't really get rashes or redness anywhere else, so to me, it is the natural place to put diaper cream. But every babe is different!

The only place DS gets red is in the creases and right there. So yes,I do put the cream there. If you are not comfortable with this let the daycare know. Ask them to be certain they use a tounge depresser or cotton ball.

Paige has never had a full blown diaper rash but when she starts to get red it is always in the crach area around the anus so yep that is where I put the diaper rash cream. But I never put cream on her unless there is some redness.

Wherever he's pink, we put cream. So, sometimes right on his anus, sometimes his scrotum, lately the fat pad above his penis. It seems like they shouldn't need to do it with every poopy dipe, though.

That's pretty much the only place I put it since that's what starts getting red first. But I always use a large amount and spread it thick like frosting so I end up getting it all over his scrotum and creases too. The thicker you spread it the better the barrier.
