Okay, so my Apronstrings and things arrived about a week before I expected it to! Even though they're really Kaya's diapers, I feel like it's an early b-day present for me. :D

Anyway, I got an insert for one of my diapers which is kind of unusual (I think), so I thought I'd share.

The top right is a side-snapping pocket and more trim than the others. The rest are front snapping. The bottom left is a replacement pocket for my other one whose snap placement was a little wonky (experimental). The bottom right is my overnight pocket and is 300 wt fleece. The others are all 200 wt fleece. The top left is stuffed with the insert, which is why it looks somewhat bigger than the other front-snapping pockets.

This is the insert that came with the diaper. It's a white microfiber towel, somewhat thicker and softer than the regular MF towels we get at Target. I've placed one of the pockets on it, so you can see the size. You fold it in half, and then in thirds and it makes a nice poofy insert. I put it in one of the front-snapping pockets and it's so much more squishable than any other insert I've used (well, except maybe 2 MF towels. But I think this insert will surpass 2 MF towels in absorbency.

I haven't tested it out yet, because I'm waiting for Kaya's stomach bug to pass, but I'll definitely let you all know how it holds up. I'm almost thinking of trying it out for overnight, just to see if I can go overnight without hemp. :)

Sometimes I wish there was a baby girl in my life so I could get pink stripe-y diapers, too. I'm so bored with boy colors.

She's been really fussy today, and I think it's partly because the poor thing is teething! Why is it that all things that make them feel crappy come together at the same time? Of course, the very helpful girl timed every runny, poopy diaper so that I changed every single one of them (DH lucked out). Of course, now I'm feeling super crappy myself, which means she passed it on to me. Sigh. I'm HOPING that I'll get some good sleep tonight so that I can play handbells tomorrow. This is the first time this season that I've been this sick, so I suppose I should count my blessings. Now I know how moms who have their kids in daycare on a daily basis feel! (Kaya got her bug from the twins in church day care.) Ick. Juliet, Steph, and the rest of you moms with kids in day care--I am SO SORRY!!!! Steph, I know he's out now, but I also know he was sick all the time from day care, poor kiddo.

Okay, rambling now--this is the first time I've even felt human enough to type, but my mind is fading so I better stop now. Pam, I'll be sure to report back on the MF towel experiment.

Okay, I actually used the insert by itself in the fleece pocket at night and it didn't quite make it. I liked how it was so soft and squishy compared to my hemp inserts, but Kaya woke up at 4:30 in the morning (after being in the diaper for 12 hours) and the insert was pretty soaked. She was slightly clammy, but no leaks with the diaper. It wasn't the wet diaper that woke her, though, it was hunger (still making up for not eating during her bout with stomach virus). I put on a new diaper and when I checked the diaper an hour later, she was still dry. So it's possible this insert would have made it. It certainly would be fine for the average wetter. I'm guessing if I were to use it regularly overnight, I'd toss in an extra microfiber towel since it's pretty squishy and not too bulky.

Eileen,
Try a smallish hemp doubler with the microfiber. I swear by the combo of hemp/microfiber. I ALWAYS have leaks at night if I use only hemp or microfiber, and NEVER have leaks with a combo. Even a small doubler like a Daisy-doodle does the trick - and adds no bulk.

FWIW. YMMV.

Okay, tonight, I took the microfiber towel and placed a LJ night behind it and it added almost no bulk to the diaper. I'll see how it works tonight. :) And I think you're right about the hemp/MF combo, although I don't know why it works better this way. The good news is that this combo was much squishier and comfy (IMO) than my usual. So if this works out, I may need to contact the original seller of the towel (Joanne at Zannadu) and see if she can get me more of them!
