I'm a new mom & have been CDing from the very beginning thanks to Jen introducing me to it.:-) DS is now nearly 3 months old & I'm switching from NB Kissaluvs to mostly AIOs. We have quite a few FBs with JB inserts, which are great as far as fit, trimness & ease of use for DH. However, since we started using the FBs w/ the JBs, our diaper pail reaks! The smell is so bad that we're holding our breath just when we open the pail to toss in a dirty dipe and emptying a bag full into the washer is simply awful. I do laundry every 2-3 days, but the smell is there if there are only 1 or 2 dipes in the pail. There was absolutely no odor before w/ just the Kissaluvs, and since I exclusively breastfeed Ty I'm thinking it must be the hemp in the JBs? I've read prior posts about problems w/ hemp & FBs stinking, but mine come clean & I don't notice any bad smells except from when they're in the pail. Any suggestions on what I can do to eliminate the stench?

DS is a heavy wetter, so I thought hemp was the best option. Would LisaJane inserts be a good option? I don't like the bulkiness of using PFs. What about a microfiber towel - could I use one by itself as a stuffer? If so, where's a good place to get them?

I missed out on the sale earlier this week at Jack's magic bean stalk. :( Is there anywhere else that has FBs on sale?

Also, I'd be interested in suggestions for any other sites to find AIOs (fitted or pockets) with cute prints. I've looked at prior posts for websites, and ordered 4 adorable Angelwraps but have to wait for DS to gain a couple of more pounds before they'll fit. I'd love to find some more prints, but there seems to be a very limited selection in AIOs.

Sorry for such a long post.

I'm still kinda new here myself so I can't answer many of your questions. Just wanted to commiserate on the stink of the hemp...my DS is also a heavy wetter and I love the hemp we have for absorbancy, but alas the stink has hit here too. I just tried my regular wash routine and added two extra rinses...I've heard the stink can be a detergent build-up...hope that helps!

Your hemp stink is probably buildup. Most detergents will eventually build up, do a search on stripping to see what the most effective thing is (mostly just rinse, rinse, rinse until there are no more suds. If you have hard water sometimes a little Calgon helps, or using sportswash).

I throw a wipe with a few drops of tea tree oil into my pail. That helps with smell a bit.

LizaJane inserts are great but they are also hemp so will get buildup as well. I actually prefer microfiber, I use Cottonbabies microfiber inserts which hold a ton (www.cottonbabies.com)

I have a very basic AIO (not quick dry) from Jellybean diapers, it is aplix closure only. She does have some prints and you can actually get them! Bumblebuns has a few openings for print very babys (those are one of my favorite aios) but she doesn't have many prints: http://www.bumblebuns.com/store/WsDefault.asp?Cat=All-In-Ones&Sub=48&isThumbs=No&Thumbs=
Another source for very babys, closed until april though:

Good luck finding something!

I have a heavy wetter, so I definitely use hemp. There are two main reasons for stink in hemp--the first is detergent buildup and the second is not using enough detergent to get them clean. The former is the more likely culprit, especially if the rest of your diapers are getting clean.

If your hemp inserts do not have snaps, I would try boiling them for 10-15 minutes or microwaving them in a microwave-safe container with water (Anna, pritchettzoo posted something a couple months back about the great experiment). Both seem to successfully remove detergent buildup.

If they do have snaps or you don't feel like boiling them (I have yet to try either of those routes), you can wash them in the machine on the hottest setting possible, and then watch your machine to see if you're getting all the soap bubbles out. If you see suds during the rinse routines, then do extra hot cycles without any detergent until the rinses run clear. You could also wash your hemp stuff with a capful of Calgon and rinse until everything is all clear. I've used this method and it seems to help.

Also, whenever I have a night diaper (which all use hemp), I will rinse out the diapers completely before putting them in the pail. I just use the sink or the bathtub. This was Rashmi's method and it works great to keep the stink at bay once you know you don't have buildup.

I can't help you with your question about the FBs but I think there was a recent question about AIOs (mudpiebabies, I think are a good one) where people listed their favorite AIOs...

...wait, here it is:

Could I have detergent buildup after only 3 washes maximum? I use only a tiny amount of Tide Free liquid, do a prewash soak in cold, wash in hot, and do an extra rinse, which is the same routine I used w/ the Kissaluvs and never had suds in the rinse cycle. I will double check though to make sure there still are no suds in the rinse cycle.

Hmm...do you have hard or soft water? It is possible that if you have hard water that you're not using enough detergent.
