So - I'm slowly being sucked in (thank you so much, Kerri and Eileen):)

Anyone have any experience/ opinions about Starbunz woolups and/or Tiny Hinnies?

Tiny Hinnies:

Starbunz:

These are affordable, available, and I have a coupon! :)

I don't have any experience with either of them, but I do have one of the Starbunz fleece dipes and those are super bulky (but cute). It's hard to tell without actually getting our hands on them, but from the pictures, the Tiny Hinnies seem more trim.

I just read the description of the Starbunz at DiaperWare and they seem like they might be good. But did you see a picture of the windpro cover they have to the right of the woolup? That looks extremely trim:

http://www.diaperware.com/starbunz.htm#wool

The description says that it's good for petite babies (which I believe Neels is, right?).

Oh, and I just looked up the Tiny Hinnies on Diaperpin and found the following review:

http://www.diaperpin.com/diapers/itemdetail.asp?id=722&page=1

The reviews seem to imply they would work better on a thin baby than on a chunky baby.

HTH!

Thank Eileen! Neel is long and skinny - so the Tiny Hinnies might be an option.

I so need to put some stuff on Swap - then I could buy some wool guilt free. :)

Any interest in knitted wool, like a pull-up soaker, or shorts?
There are affordable options in recycled wool at http://hyenacart.com/NewLifeWoolens/

or there's always WoolyBumBums www.woolybumbums.com

These are nice pull-on wool options, and affordable for trying before you shell out any big bucks on custom knitted goods.

Do you have Neel's measurements, I am just interested ;) ?

Oh, and a trim soaker without big leg cuffs works great under pants or shorts, even for my chunkster. It would just help keep Neel's shorts up!

There doesn't seem to anything available at either of those places right now. And both the Starbunz and the Tiny Hinnies are inexpensive - less that $20 shipped - which is really, really tempting.

Also - aren't the knitted options really bulky, though? That's what kept me from trying those. I'm sure my mother (who will be visiting shortly) would be able to whip up one, if I asked her. She knit a sweater for Neel last year, when they were here, in about 3 days - so a pull-up soaker shouldn't be that hard.

Don't have Neel's measurements - despite many recent attempts.

But - how much wool does a soaker or shorts need? Just in case I decide to exploit the doting grandma :) If it isn't much I might do a special order of yarn from Abi at High Prairie Fibers - I just ordered a bunch of roving and batts from her to make felted wool balls to sell to raise funds for cocker rescue.

100g should be plenty, which is about what a typical "skein" consists of. Your mom could easily knit one up, if she can finish a sweater in three days! It takes me about a week to do a simple pull on soaker, and I just knit a couple hours in the evening, and during some meetings at work.

I'd ask the High Prairie lady about what type of roving would be nice for soakers. I know Blue-Faced Leicester is very nice, and Merino, and I bet Corriedale would also be nice and soft, yet sturdy. I find that soakers knit with a light-weight worsted yarn are not very bulky at all, certainly less so than a fleece cover, at least for Fory.

Oh MAN! I just checked out High Prairie Fibers, and she is less than 30 minutes from my house! I wonder if she'd give me spinning lessons? Gotta really delve into that website tonight!

Abi is very sweet. Didn't realize she was that close to you. I'm all for throwing business her way - she's a fellow rescuer (she does parrots, though).

Thanks to all of you, now I'm seriously obsessessing over wool - which I've managed to withstand for over a year. Found another option that's cheap and available, and looks trim- Angeldry. Reviews on diaperpin for her other products are good - but I can't find a review for the wool cover, and nothing came up on my search on this board, either. But it would be a fairly inexpensive experiment, I think

There's a really inexpensive fleece cover listed, that looks pretty trim too.

Well, I'm about to order one, so I'll let you know what I think, LOL! These Angeldry covers look great! I love the fold over elastic binding, I wish all my covers had this stuff. And the wool interlock is very nice and trim, I have a Loveybums cover made of it, its just as trim as a Bummi's cover, I find.
