i just got my benjamuffin and i am so in love with it. it is so cute that i want to wear it. how can i put this on ds when there is a chance that he may poop in it! both of the inserts are hemp with fleece cover so there is no way my super soaker should pee through it.

My DS is a predicatable pooper now, never poops at night or first thing so his Benjamuffins never get hit with that. We have two and they are both super-cute. So far, they have kept him nice and dry.

Enjoy!

What is the site for these? I think we need to explore other nightime options. Is the one you have for day or night?

it is the night time diaper. i requested all hemp as i believe one of the doublers is usually not hemp, only one is. it is www.benjamuffins.com but i believe she is closed untill next month. i will update tomorrow on how well it does tonight :)

I recently got several older benjamuffins through freecycle but I have to replace the elastic in them and by the time I get that done they probably won't fit, LOL! (Actually I think they are already to small so they will be saved for baby #2)

ETA: we must have posted the site at the same time.

Trish -
The site is http://www.benjamuffins.com/ (I got the set shown on the homepage, the batik is a daytime and the asian print a nightime)

Eileen has Benjamuffins also, has reviewed them before.

I have Benjamuffins, a VB Simply Night and a SchnooglyWear U.N.D.E.R. (http://arthur.rtsdns.net/~schnoogl/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=229&zenid=d09bd214ae4ae3a7457624bb7ff899b4) for nighttime. The Schnoogly is a pocket style, customize your stuffing. Haven't tried the Simply Night yet, but the others work about equally well, although James might be a little less clammy in the schnoogly because it is just a smooth layer of fleece up against him (like a FB) rather than the folded soaker or doubler.

Trish, I used Benjamuffins for a while and really liked them. The OP was right, they are super cute! That being said, I have switched over to VB Simply Nights. They are slighty more absorbant and actually trimmer the the BM's. I think that is because there are more layers of hemp and less fleece in the VB's. Also, a PP was correct in stating that the other doubler is not hemp. It is actually sherpa though I did find it to do well for DS. I never thought to ask for a hemp doubler instead.

Yes, the Benjamuffins Nightdreamers work very well for my super soaker. But I also think the VB simply nights are just a bit more absorbent and trim, probably for the reason that Angie said. I would guess that using a fleece lined hemp doubler in place of the regular doubler would increase the absorbeny, but I don't have any of those. Regardless of the night time diaper used, these days, I add an extra fleece liner to all of them (Jen's suggestion) because it helps to keep Kaya feeling extra dry. My night time stash is now 2 fleece pockets, 2 VB simply nights and 1 Benjamuffin nightdreamer. I will probably end up using the 3 fitteds more often during the summer with the fleece pockets as backup.

ETA: the benjamuffins are super cute and she has a large selection of fabrics to choose from--not quite the selection that mudpie babies has, but I don't think ANY other WAHM has quite that selection, LOL!

Well, I guess the good news for your wallet is that she's currently out of stock. I know she's in the process of selling her business, but I'm not sure if she'll be doing another opening for customs before she sells or not. She does sell her patterns for use by other WAHMs, but I don't remember which companies those are (Jen or others would be able to tell you). I don't know if she's allowed others to use her Simply Nights pattern yet, but I'm sure it's a matter of time.

how could my ds soak thru it?!!!! not real bad but he did leak. i think it is because there was a gap at the top because of all the fluff inside and it leaked out the top because the soakers were not "soaked" from front to back. i will try it again without all the fluff and see if that works better. i am pretty sure that this was due to my error because when you felt the front of the diaper it wasnt drenched. the cover i used also didnt reach over the top of the diaper so the top was sticking out. i have a fleece cover but dh was like "you cant put that on him, how will he ever be able to move" so i didnt. teach me to listen to dh! :)

Trish,

I have a Benjamuffin nightdreamer I'm going to be posting on Swap. Got it from another mama here. DS flatly refuses to wear it - it's too wide in the stride for my stringbean. LMK if you want to try it. Camo outer, tan fleece inner. Who says girls can't wear camo? :)

Do you have an aristocrat? I used a large aristocrat with my medium benjamuffins and while it seemed a bit bulky (okay, a lot bulky), it didn't seem to bother her a bit and I NEVER had a single leak with her in that combo. Same with the VB and Aristocrat combo.

As for the gap at the top, did you make sure your DS was "pointed down" as you put the diaper on? The diaper worked with both the snap-in soaker and the doubler, but if I tried to add anything extra it would be way too bulky. When she outgrew the absorbency of the mediums, I did put a microfiber towel on the outside (in front) between the diaper and the cover and that helped. I would think a wool doubler would do the same thing.

i do have a stacinator fleece cover, will that work better? i dont have any wool yet, i am waiting for my first one :) he was facing south so that shouldnt be a problem.

The staccinators run big, don't they? As long as the cover completely covers the diaper, you shouldn't have any problems. I've used a Cosmic Baby Shop fleece cover for overnight and that works pretty well as well, because it completely swaddles the diaper. Yes, it wouldn't work well as a trim daytime option because it's anything but trim, LOL. That said, I have let Kaya wander around during the day in just a diaper and that cover. :)

i wasnt wanting to give it another try but i did and the stacinator cover worked! no leak. thanks for the help and by the way is it normal with this combo for his legs to stick out at funny angles and his butt be so big that he cant really crawl? this wont hurt him right? id hate in ten years to have a bow legged son because i put the biggest cloth diaper on him as an overnight option :)

I'm glad it worked! As for the huge bubble butt and bowleggedness, I asked that question a few times when I first started investigating night time diapers and so far all the answers I've read say there is no problem. Yes, Kaya seems to have her legs sticking out at funny angles, but I can still "walk her" by holding onto her hands and she toddles along. It doesn't really seem to interfere with her movements.
