I love the Mudpie AIO (large) that I got, but it is not trim enough for under rompers/shorts/capris. Also, not mad about PUL for summer.
The Mudpie Fitted is just as bulky and with a wool cover, it gets bulkier.
I don't want to use anything with PUL, so SEZ pockets are out... and fleece pockets will be too warm (so no AprongStrings either).
I did like the Harleyz Cotton Pockets.. they are nice and trim, but a PITA to stuff and can only really hold an infant prefold, which is not enough absorbency for when we are out and about.

SOOOOOOO...... what are your suggestions for my dream summer diaper.
TRIM. BREATHABLE. ABSORBANT.
It can be a pocket or fitted or an aio.
If you are the one with the winning suggestion, I will love you forever! :)

Well, not an AIO, but what about the SEZ cotton pockets? They're just as easy as the regular SEZ to stuff. When I stuff them with sufficient stuffings, Kaya wanders around in the cotton pocket with no pants or cover and it works very well. But it wouldn't work well for out and about, I guess...or at least you'd have to watch her to change her whenever she wet so she wouldn't wick her car seat, etc.

Angelwraps AIO's are much, much trimmer than Mudpies. They run large, Noah still has tons of room to go in a medium. Angelwraps uses taffeta and Nik Wax for waterproofness so you don't have to worry about PUL.

I would say a trim fitted such Firefly's, Bijoubabygear, SP's etc. under a thin and trim wool wrap is the way to go. For thin wraps try Loveybums, Angelwraps, Bijoubabygear, Little Fishy, Fuzbomb, Woolybumbums. That's all I can think of off thetop of my head.

Thanks Eileen, I think I will order a SEZ pocket to try. If I find a trim enough cover, it might just be our solution.

Rashmi, I just thought about something else!! What about a WIO? Wool in One? I know that RB and Bizzy B Hive used to make them. I don't know any current WAHM's though. Maybe someone else can chime in.

Bumpy covers are the trimmest we have. I need to order one of the new Soft Wrap ones to try. Loveybums wool covers are trim too.

Bumpy Days? Those are PUL right?
Bumpy Wools were really bulky.. unless they changed the design.. i thought they were huge.. we used to use them as a night cover. let me check out this soft-wrap you mention. thanks anna!

My trimmest fitteds (with a wool cover):

Eezi-gear side snap: http://www.eezigear.com/index_files/Instock.htm
Bottombumpers side snap: http://www.bottombumpers.com/

Everything else I have has PUL, or not trim enough.

Wow, the Eezi-gear side snaps look incredibly trim! If I had finished putting a bunch of diapers on the swap before my vacation, I might have tried one of these. But maybe if I can clear out some of my inventory, I can try one of these. :)

Snap-EZ.
You have to be careful when typing S-EZ because the Z is next to the X.

Ok, I'm really feelin' the Bumkins AIO love right now - super trim and even though there's is PUL - it's more like a light breathable windbreaker jacket type material. It has to be the trimmest dipe Neve wears and even under leggings, there's no huge bubble butt (you won't catch me in leggings anytime soon!!)

ETA: NO PUL - must be nylon :)

Pam,

You really like Bumkins AIOs? Ever since I saw Becca's DD's super cute Bumkins bib, I've been wondering about them. Is the material PUL? Does it wick? Are they a good fit on your DD?

Sorry for all the questions. Are you going non-hyena on us now? ;)

Hee hee - as soon as the warm weather hits, my hyena-ness goes into hibernation :)

The outer of Bumkins AIO is same as the bib material - the interior is flannel. I'm not sure if there's PUL or what LOL! I throw a fleece topped doubler in and I haven't had any leaks. And I love the applix - fast!!

I ordered Bumkins AIOs when I first started CDing & didn't know what is what. They have such cute prints & they just looked so easy to use...just like a sposie. I never see them mentioned in the CD world so have never brought up the fact that - well I kinda like them! They are super trim, really not much bulkier than a sposie (I think) & with aplix tabs so easy to use. I have yet to have a leak or wicking. The inside isn't super soft but you could probably add a fleece liner for extra cushiness. They fit my DS well -

ok, there I said it. I LIKE my Bumkins AIOs :) personally I can't think of a friendlier CD (for us) for outings. And they are easy to get!

Here's a blurb from Soft Cloth Bunz on the Bumpy Day...

"Bumpy® Day Covers are beautifully constructed. They are made with a soft cotton outside and a soft polyester inside. The polyester has been laminated so it is waterproof. "

So yes, they do have PUL on the inside. They're different, and much nicer IMO, than Proraps, Bummis, and the like though. If you haven't tried one, do. You may change your mind about no PUL for the summer months.

What exactly is your objection to PUL? (I'm not knockin' it. I'm just asking) If you're ruling out wool and fleece because they're too bulky I'm kinda at a lose as to what else there is besides PUL.

The trimmest diapers I have, by far, are AIOs by Daisy Doodles but they definitely have PUL. We're talkin' disposables trim though. The tag line on them is something like "the bikini cut diapering system." I refer to them as the thong of the CD world. And they are really more of a system than a AIO. If the shell isn't pooped on you can just swap out the soaker for a new one. I like FMBG AIOs too but again, PUL.

As far as fitteds, I like SP side-snapping and eeZi-Gear eeZi-Folds (or eeZi-Fits, though I only know those by reputation). But there's still that pesky cover problem for when you're out and about...

The reason I don't like PUL is because they're not as breathable as fleece or wool. Kaya tends to break out in constant rashes when I use PUL for more than one diaper change. And as warm as fleece can get over the summer, PUL also tends to hold in the heat for Kaya.

I think this summer I will probably be doing mostly coverless fitted dipes or fitted with wool covers.

Rashmi, I only have one nylon cover (SEZ), but I've read on these boards that nylon is more breathable than PUL. I do use my SEZ nylon whenever I need something trim. Maybe you could try one of those pull-on Bummis Whisper pants? They would be certainly trim and they might be breathable enough for Leels.

I understand the whole breathability thing. Wool and fleece are definitly more breathable. I just don't get what the solution is if it isn't wool or fleece. There are Bummi Whisper Pants as you mentioned but even though I loved the cute cotton prints, I found them totally ineffective as covers. Going coverless and changing frequently is less expensive and just as effective in my opinion. That's just me though.

Another idea - get Carolee to stalk Luxe baby for you :) The Luxe wool jersey covers are super trim and you can buy snap-in diapers for them - nice and trim!!

Yoohoo! not ruling out Wool.. as long as it is trim (hopefully the Bijou wool jersey is trim)...last year the PUL covers made her really hot in her diaper area.. it gets super hot and humid here. I even think the dispies were more breathable!
I have used Bumpy Days when she was younger.. they are my fav poly covers but even they didn't cut it last summer. So i am hoping some cotton fitteds/pockets that are trim enough will provide the absorbency and a trim wool cover will let us leave the house! :)

Do you think they'd work for a heavy wetter?

Thanks!

No shame in saying you love them. :) The twins in our church have been exclusively CD'd with Bumkins AIOs, with the exception of when they were really young and small--they used Kaya's preemie PFs and K0s for a short while.

They look really cool! The only thing I'm thinking is that they suggest washing them in Eucalan, which means I wouldn't be able to wash them with my regular dipes? I guess I could use a fleece liner in case she poops on them and then put them in a separate pile to wash in Eucalan, but it seems like it might be extra work? What do you think Pam?

Hmmm, I think for wool pockets to work - you would need several so you could air dry inbetween. And I would definitely use a doubler to keep the poop off the wool. They sound interesting but I wonder why she's the only wahm making them?

I think the Bumkins could work if you added a fleece-topped hemp doubler inside. Today I pushed the Bumkins limit - 3 hrs. this morning while running errands - no leaks and I do use a doubler inside. I wouldn't classify Neve as a heavy wetter anymore though. She's very predictable after meals :)
