Newbie pocket questions. I have our first pockets to try - baby blanket and a FB, both mediums. Inserts are 2 cotton babies, 1 LJ day and 1LJ nighttime, and I'll get some micorfiber towels at target. When you stuff the pocket, does the insert have to reach side to side as well as end to back? Cottonbabies insert snapped back isn't quite long enough for the FB, but I like the extra absorbency in DS's pee zone. Does it matter how you stuff the pocket, towel or hemp on top etc? DS is a heavy wetter, any advice on how to stuff the pocket?
Thanks,
Nicci

I have found that you get the best result if the stuffin does cover side to side. My favorite way to stuff is to wrap a micro towel around a JB. I am sure this would work with a LJ too. I don't think front to back coverage is as important as long as the pee zone is well covered.

I use Cottonbabies in my FBs although we have PT so the insert unsnapped fits perfectly. I think you are fine snapping it so the extra is in front.

I usually use microfiber towels with my hemp inserts (JB or LJ's). Towel on top (closer to DS). I find that the microfiber "catches" the pee quickly and then lets it absorb into the hemp, hemp alone didn't absorb fast enough for my flooder. I do fold the towel to make sure it covers entirely side to side.

I agree with pp about the side to side coverage being much more important than front to back. For Kaya, most of the coverage needs to be in front, since she's a tummy sleeper. Although, even though she's sitting most of the day, the front still seems to get more wet than the back--sort of like a boy. Having never had a boy, though, maybe it's normal for all babies to wet the front more than the back?

In any case, I like having a combo of microfiber and hemp. The combo always seems to work better for my supersoaker than either one individually.

Thanks. I'll get some microfiber towels and give our pockets a first try. Up to now, we've used Kissaluvs and prefolds with covers and only once or twice did they wick. Here's hoping pockets work for us too.

We always stuff our FB's with a hemp (mostly LJ) and a microfiber towel around it. I bought some microfibers from Sam's and Costco and there is a huge difference with the thickness of them. I notice that with the yellow Costco ones, they are soooo thick that it is almost too much bulk and causes a little leakage around the legs. I really prefer the thinner blue towels since they absorb just as well and it gives a much smoother fold to stuff with. For times when I know he hasn't had a lot to drink, I will just use two microfibers alone to stuff with and it works just fine.

Ryan is a super heavy wetter and we just can't get by without the microfiber + the hemp insert!
