View Full Version : Yikes, sposie diaper disposal story...

This morning I'm reading a thread on another BB. Someone wanted to know what diaper pails people were using b/c she didn't like the Dekor and was pg again.

I was astonished and dismayed at how many people were double bagging - using some kind of ziploc or scented bag and then putting that in the bag in the pail. Clearly no one ever read the directions on the package and is dumping poop in the toliet or they wouldn't be so psycho about smell :( -- and definitely no CDers!

I have never been particularly crunchy but I was cringing, thinking about the environmental impact. But what do you say without sounding like a jerk?

I had the diaper champ and was throwing the poop in there with the diaper for months and months. It was so gross - it was a "eureka" moment when it occured to me to dump the poop in the toilet first. I don't remember reading to do that anywhere in any instructions, or in any baby books...

Did you respond to the post with the suggestion to dump the poop first? Sometimes you get non-dumpable poop, and those I would double-bag, but the other times, dumping is the way to go.

It does say right on the package of sposies that you are supposed to flush the poop first, so maybe you could point that out.

Do they mean exclusive BF poop? Or are they talking about the poop that I assume will come once I start Jonathan on solids? Because there's really no way any of the BF poop will fall off the sposie and into the toilet - it's pretty sticky.

Oh yeah, I guess BF poop wouldn't really come off, huh? Those days are long gone for us so I kinda forgot about it!

But yes, once on solids, the poop should just roll off (for the most part).

Is the BF poop super-stinky? (My DS was on formula, I don't recall things getting really stinky until he started on solids!) It seems to me that you wouldn't get a lot of stink until solids, when the poop gets more formed. Then again we are the home of the original peanut butter poop, I have to work pretty hard to get some of that off sposies when he happens to poop when wearing one (DH still is afraid of poop in cloth.)

I got the impression that it didn't occur to anyone to even try to dump the poop, from the way the responses were written.

I think that even if it says on the package that you should dump the poop, most people don't realize it and therefore don't think to do it. Right now we're definitely in peanut butter poop territory and nothing but my minishower (or scrubbing by hand) is going to get the poop off. I would assume that if one used disposables, one would also want a minishower to remove this type of poop. But from what you said, it's probably true that most people don't realize they need to dump the poop. I guess this is related to my sister's (maestramommy) recent question about dumping human wastes.

Generally, BF poop isn't stinky at all. I hardly noticed when he pooped, until he started solids.

DS typically poops in the mornings only, so I use a paper, flusable liner in those dipes. It just peels off and goes in the toilet. Very easy.
