Are you not supposed to use wipes right at the beginning? There seems to be contradictory info on this. I'm going to ask the Pediatrician when we meet here, but I'm curious of what you all have heard?

Any suggestions on brands?

Thanks. Amy

What kind of wipes? Cloth type or pampers/huggies/luvs in tubs? No you are not "supposed" to use the boxed type on NB's I am not sure how long. I did the homemade papertowel route for all 3 of mine. ( cut a roll of >> I used Viva brand<< in half add about 2 cups of water with a little baby bath an place in plastic container. I will be curious to see what others have done.

Well, our pede said to just use a washcloth and water because some of the wipes solutions can irritate sensitive newborn skin. Since we were using cloth wipes anyway, we just filled up a peri bottle with warm water and changed her diapers with the warm water for quite a few months, before we discovered Baby Bits solution several months ago.

Yes, just use warm water and washcloths or cloth wipes in the beginning. Newborn skin is extremely sensitive, it is better to avoid chemicals, fragrances, etc for awhile.

Cloth wipes and water is all I ever use! I do use disposable wipes when we travel and I am always annoyed at how many I need to use, the cloth ones are much better at getting the job done! ;)

I used regular wipes with both my kids even as newborns. I was told, cant remember by whom, that the not with newborns thing was because there used to be alcohol in the wipes, which there is not in most wipes now. I think I may have used sensitive skin ones at teh beginning with my first but just used the regular ones with number 2 as that is what we had on hand. Neither had a problem.

Re brands, I use whatever is on sale but generally Luvs or Pampers as I like the one up design.

We used a small bowl of water and cotton pads. They are like cotton balls but flat and found in the make-up section of the drug store. I would just dip a cotton pad in the water and squeeze out. Both of my babies are breastfeed and the soft poo was very easy to get out cracks and crevices this way.

Thanks everyone.

By "cloth wipes" do you mean just cloth like a washcloth from home or is it something you buy?

Some use wash cloths for wipes, or you can buy (or make) cloth wipes.

Here's an example:

One piece for a water bottle. If some of it is still undissolved when I use half of it, I'll add half a bottle more of warm water and shake for next time. So my guess is one to 24 oz of warm water?

Just another perspective, but we used the cloth/guaze wipe things in the hospital and took an extra box home with us (our hospital gave us lots of "free" stuff) and after that we used the Pampers Natural Touch and then the Pampers alcohol-free, fragrance-free wipes. We have used the Huggies ones when they were on sale but I DO NOT like them very much. I just use them in the diaper bag and on trips so I can use them up. :)
