DS has the worst diaper rash he has ever had. It's is raised & looks somewhat like (though not completely) the yeast pic on the drsears.com link someone included in another post however the rash is not on the genital area at all it's more near the bum cheek. Is it only yeast when it is on the genital area or could this also be yeast? I had used a different brand of wipes so I thought this could be a possible cause of the rash or that maybe the diaper caused it since the fit seemed to not be aligned properly. I've since moved him up a size. I tried searching other posts and will try some of the suggestions but wanted to find out more about the yeast possibility.

Thanks!

DD had it on just the inside of her thighs at one point, so I do think it could be on a location not on the genitals. But don't quote me on that--I'm not a doc! But when I showed a picture to my pede's office, they did say it looked a lot like yeast. Clotrimazole did a good job on it, so I believe that's what she had. Let him have a lot of air time and do all the things you would do for a bad rash, including BS baths and rash cream + something to combat the yeast. But don't use any steroidal type creams because they feed the yeast. Anyway, I hope he feels better soon!

Do you just use the Clotrimazole found in the feminine section of the drugstore that is for vaginal yeast infections? How much do you use? I started using the triple paste & picked up some Clotrimazole but wanted to ask before I started using that.

THANKS!

I just got the clotrimazole from the Athelete's Foot section. I got the generic Lotriman AF. I use it maybe 3x's a day when it's obvious she has a yeast rash. Once before bed, once when she wakes up, and maybe once in the middle of the day. For a bad rash, with DD, the best preventative cure, other than the clotrimazole for the yeast is my mixture of triple paste, aquaphor, and liquid mylanta (or the equivalant). For some reason, triple paste by itself doesn't work as well, and neither does aquaphor by itself. Maybe it needs the healing of the mylanta? (counteracts acid irritation) I learned about that from Marisa, actually! ETA: the pede also said that if the rash seems to be very itchy, I can add a dab (I added less than an inch) of benadryl to my rash mixture (I make up a tub in an old aquaphor container).

Thanks for the advice. I haven't had a chance to go back to CVS to exchange the clotrimazole but I've given ds baths with baking soda and put on the triple paste & aquaphor combo (forgot the mylanta on my first trip as well) and it looks much better. :) There is only one really red dot and it feels pretty smooth. I think the diaper is hitting at that point so I'm trying to play around with his diaper to avoid hitting that spot. I feel so much better now that the rash is disappearing!

Thanks again!
