View Full Version : disposable diaper sizing/when to switch sizes?

DS has seemed to outgrow the past 2 diaper sizes before he reaches the weight on the next size. Do people usually stick to the weight guideline? How do you determine when to switch sizes? The last time the width didn't seem wide enough for him and he seemed to have some friction marks (prev posted on the diaper rash now in that area). I'm now wondering if I'm just not fitting them properly.

THANKS!

I think many kids outgrow the diapers before the weight limit. I know Kami has! I also have had to switch brands instead of sizing up. For example, we used Pampers for NB and size 1 and then the size 2's just didn't fit her well so we went to Huggies size 2 and then moved to Huggies size 3. Now she has outgrown Huggies size 3 so we switched back to Pampers size 3.
One sure fire way that we have found when we must switch sizes is when the diaper no longer contains the pee and poop and it all goes up the back or out the legs.
I just thought about another thing....are you using a diaper with stretchy sides? If so, you might not need to tighten them as much. Tim has a tendency to over tighten Kami's diapers b/c he forgets that she isn't as skinny when she sits up as when she is laying down.

HTH somewhat!

I always ended up switching when DS was near the low number on the larger bag. He has always been tall and it seemed that he would wet up his belly if they got to short. He was in 4s for a long time and I was using 5s at 16months when I switched to cloth.

We have always switched long before DS got to the top number on the lower size. The larger size looks a little funky at first but he is a bit of a heavy wetter and needed the extra absorbency. (He wears an even bigger size of huggies overnights, not even at the low weight for those yet.)
