I placed my first cloth order today! Thanks to all the advice in my earlier post (below), I decided to try out a couple Happy Heiny's and a Fuzzi Bunz just to see how I like them.

I'd also like to try a prefold + cover. What's a good cover recommendation for my heavy wetter?

Thanks everyone!

Our workhorse covers are Motherease. www.motherease.com

You can get a try-me special package with one of their one-size diapers and a cover including shipping for a good price. I don't think the diaper will be good by itself for a heavy wetter though (but they have really good resale, so you might want to get it anyway!).

Gracie's in a M/L right now--she's about 31 lbs, 19-20" waist, not chunky thighs.

I've been told that nothing will get through a ME AF cover. I think it would work with a trifolded or quadruplefolded prefold. You could also maybe try a nylon cover. I've used the Snap-EZ nylon cover with a quadfolded prefold, but it does tend to give her "rectangle butt". :P Other good covers for quadfolding are Bummis SWW and maybe Bumpy's, although I've been told the cotton ones tend to wick with heavier wetters. And of course, you could always try fleece or wool. :) My favorite wool for quadfolding is either a tester wool cover from Baby Blankets or more available, the Angeldry wrap. That's the one with the super strong velcro, so a babe is unlikely to undo it (IMO).

ETA: Doh, I think I posted just after Anna. Yes, I agree with her--the cover will work very well, but the diaper will not be good enough for a heavy wetter. That said, you can always put hemp doublers in the diaper to increase its absorbency. I think Lizajane was using a bunch of these for both her newborn and toddler, since they're one-size diapers. Both her babes are heavy wetters and that's what she did. I think she put 1 or 2 fleece topped hemp doublers (that she made herself, but you can get these other places or maybe from her) inside the MEAF for Schuyler and one of them for Dylan.

In my experience, the ME AF covers are great, but they are poofy and therefore require a Snappi'd prefold.

I don't have a heavy wetter, so I don't have any suggestions on covers. Bumpy works well for us.

Ah, okay, that makes sense. The Snap-EZ cover is also on the poofy side, which is why the quadfolding doesn't work as well. Bummis SWW work great for quad/trifolding. Some of my fleece and wool wraps do as well. Oddly enough, the monkey butts cover (fleece) works well for quadfolding (but not much else).

I will just add another recommedation for the motherease airflow. They really are our "nothing gets through it" cover.

And get some fun prefolds...dyed or even tye dyed...brightens things up a bit!

If you don't want to fasten the prefold with a snappi or pins, I agree with Kris, the Motherease Airflow won't work. They are great covers over fastened prefolds and fitteds, though. For just laying a tri-folded prefold in, we use the Bummi's Super Whisper Wraps. Not super cute, but they work well. A humble Prorap will work well, also. I agree with Jen, get a few dyed prefolds! They will make great burp cloths when the new one comes, if you don't like them for Gabe.

Oh dear....I was busy yesterday!

I went ahead and ordered the intro pack from Motherease....for $17, it's impossible to pass up! I'll be sure to add some Snappis though, based on everyone's comments. I'll also be shopping for some fun, colored prefolds!

Then...I started looking at Rashmi's thread about "Name the Wool" and got thoroughly sucked in and ordered a Firefly wool cover in leaf (and the necessary under parts). :)

Now...I have a Loveybums Fleece cover and cute orange sherbert dipe in my cart. Ahh!

My first order is shipping today via Priority Mail, so I'll be able to comment next week on our first attempt!

I'm very new to CDing and really like Loveybums! They are so nice and soft and the fit is great on my 2 yo - extra large and my 4 1/2 month old chunk - large.

Go for the Loveybums!!!!

Yay! You'll have to report back on all this fun stuff, with pictures, of course. :) I've really been waffling about the loveybums, but I've finally decided not to try them because I don't think they would be absorbent enough for Kaya. On the other hand, if I ever see Loveybums seconds in NB/Sm available, I might pick up some for a next baby.
