OK, so I've got the first CD with what I think is transition poop - pasty and sticky and such a lovely olive green and stinky! I've sprayed off most of it with the mini shower. Will any residual wash away as did the breastfed poop? Thank goodness Dh installed the mini shower on the weekend, eitherwise I would consider dumping this diaper. I know I'll get used to it, but boy what a mess.

Fun, isn't it?

Just get as much off with the minishower as you can. The rest of it should wash out. If you have stains, take advantage of that lovely SoCal sun!

On a side note, how was the earthquake?

Lovely, ain't it. Like Deb, I usually try to get as much out and will even sometimes scrub at the sink, but DH leaves residues regularly and it doesn't stain. And yes, the sun does wonders. I've found a good place on my porch to put a drying rack that has sun most of the day.

What do you scrub with? Are you just rubbing the diaper on itself?

Yeah, I just rub it a little under running water. I probably don't need to do that, but I can't help myself. :P And of course when I don't have my minishower, I'll do the rinsing and flushing in the toilet to get most of it out and then rub under running water in the sink.

OK, at the risk of getting too gross here...

Tell me how you do it w/out the minishower and spare me no details. In the last 24 hours, it would seem that Gunnar has finally gotten used to solids and his little rabbit poos have turned into the, uh, peanut butter poos. *Gag* I'll never eat peanut butter again.

Last night was the first, and it was a mess. I was trying to wipe it off with TP (dumb mistake), then I was using a wipe, then I wondered how to get it off the wipe, then I thought I should just run it under the tap but the thought of poo going down the drain worried me (I don't know why), so then I was thinking I had heard that you should hold the diaper tight and flush the toilet, but then I'd have a wet, icky diaper to wring out and I had no rubber gloves.

I know that in a week this will be no big deal, but right now I am in crisis mode every time he poops.

Lol at crisis mode. I had my sister on the phone on speaker as I was changing the diaper and all she heard was "Oh my!" "It's green!". I have to remember to NOT make a big deal out of it so Barrett doesn't think what he does his gross. But it's such a change from the nice breastfed poops. Oh well.

Deb,
We had a second earthquake the other day as well. For the first I was asleep and as there was only a little movement I thought the dog had jumped on the bed. The second felt stronger to me, and I was nursing Barrett at the time. My first CA earthquakes, but I got used to them when I lived in Japan so I didn't find it scary. I should find out what I'm supposed to do if it's a bigger one.

Heh, heh, you have now all entered the world of "Fun Poop". ;)

Okay, most of the time I get the peanut buttery poop, with the occasional ones that peel off easily. First off, I use a fleece liner with ALL my diapers, even the ones that have fleece lining. That way, I can pick up the piece of fleece with most of the poop, and spray it off, or without a minishower, I'll hold it just over the water level and invert it to try to get any to peel off (even the peanut buttery ones will hold together and peel off a little). I'll swish it in the water a little to loosen it if it doesn't peel off. And no, I don't wear gloves. I used to wear those plastic gloves where you can get a box of hundred at Sam's (for food preparation, ironically), but I just decided it was easier to not worry about the gloves. After a while, poop just doesn't faze you anymore.

Anyway, I'll swish and sometimes flush, using the flushing action against the liner to get most of it out. Once it's been flushed, I'll actually use both hands to rub the fleece against each other in the cleaner water. Then if I'm feeling really anal, I'll do a final rinse in the sink.

I'll do the same with the wipes and the diaper, although I don't typically have as much poop on the diaper and the wipes. But yes, I'll swish under the water a little to get most of it off and then rub under the sink for the rest. It's not as bad as you think once you get the hang of it. That said, I prefer my minishower to not having it. :D
