Hi everyone,
I've started to use baking soda to help get rid of urine smell in my CDs. I mostly use PUL pockets w/hemp or microfiber inserts. It seems like my microfiber smells worse than my hemp!

Anyway, I'm taking care to do laundry a little more often (2 instead of 3 days), but was wondering if I add baking soda to my prewash whether that will damage my CDs for the long term.

Anyone done this successfully?

Thanks,
Lenore

I don't like to use baking soda very often because IME, it seems to cause build-up problems/odors over time. So I tend to use it only occasionally when I have a very urine-soaked load and I always do a vinegar rinse afterwards. My latest method (seems to change every few months) is to do a cold rinse every time I have lots of strong urine smell, and then hot wash with calgon + 1-2 tablespoons of detergent (yes very little) w/double cold rinse, and then a lite hot cycle w/double cold rinse no detergent. Every few washes when I notice my diapers are getting a bit crunchy, I'll add Downy advantage to the detergent dispenser (very little mixed with water) and it really helps without causing buildup/absorbency problems.

I use baking soda in my soak cycle every time, and have never had it cause a problem with our diapers. We have a combination of FuzziBunz with hemp inserts and fitteds. :)

I use baking soda all the time, I didn't use to but when we started getting toddler pee smell I started to add it. I never have any problems and my diapers don't seem any different than when I didn't use it, except we don't have pee smell anymore.

Several CDing websites claim that baking soda can be used successfully as a "laundry booster" if you add it to your detergent. I personally haven't tried it but I plan to next time we have stink issues.
