View Full Version : Mini shower technique??

Thought I'd add another mini-shower post to the list! :)

Before too long, the minishower police are going to come to my house and take it away from me. Of course, before they do that, they're going to have to completely sanitize my bathroom in order to remove the minishower. That's my problem. I feel like I need to spray down all surfaces in my bathroom after I shower off a poopy dipe. It seems like either the mini-shower is spraying too hard and I end up with water that splashes off of the diaper (and turns to icky poopy water, of course) and then around the toilet (and who knows where else) or I turn the spray down and I'm not able to get rid of all the poop on the diaper. I really need help!

Are there any tricks or techniques to using the minishower? Do you just keep a cleaning solution in your bathroom and spray down all the surfaces when you're done, or what? Thanks! :)

LOL, well, the minishower I have seems to be different from every one elses. But it has a handle and looks very much like the Kitchen sink ones. I usually start the diaper vertical and aim the spray slightly downwards. I then start spraying gently and increase it until it starts removing the poop. Yes, I still get some splashing, but it's not too bad. And yes, I keep a spray bottle of my antiseptic spray (Dr. Bronner's, water, TTO) on top of the toilet to spray off some of the splashed surfaces afterwards.

I have no help for you since we don't have a minishower. We are a throw it in the toilet and come back and swish and ring it out type of family. I thought about a minishower but have never done it, because I feared I would have the problem you are having, so I just use my free toilet (well not free since we are paying the mortgage, LOL) for soaking and rinsing.

Eileen, when you say you start spraying gently and then increase if needed, can you actually change the spray strength from the sprayer head or do you need to change the lever where it attaches to the toilet? I've tried to alter the pressure at the toilet base, but I haven't figured out how to do it once I start spraying, b/c I'll have the sprayer in one hand and the diaper in the other. Perhaps I need to be more adept with my hands so that I can hold two things in one hand...:P

How long do you leave it in the toilet before coming back and dealing with it? And you throw the whole diaper in (we use pockets)? I might actually give this a try. I ordered the minishower when I was getting all of my cd'ing supplies and was worried about poop getting on my hands. I'm so over that now!

With the spray, the tighter you grip (think like a garden hose sprayer), the stronger it sprays. So I just don't squeeze as tightly right away.

I swear that my shower has two settings - off or full force. Tonight I really tried to squeeze gently and it didn't work for me. I'll give it another go tomorrow and play with the pressure lever, too. It's in the guest bathroom after all, and we never have guests - maybe b/c they've seen the bathroom... :)

We use pockets as well (Fuzzi Bunz) so I shake off as much as I can (we still have a lot of peanut butter poop) and then throw the diaper in poop side down so the dirty areas make contact with water. Oh yeah I take out all inserts first. It gets to soak any where from not at all meaning I swish it around right then up to several hours later. It is just DH, DD, and myself so I don't have to worry about a kid flushing the toilet and getting a diaper stuck. Usually if I have a diaper in the toilet I shut the bathroom door just in case so DD doesn't learn to flush the toilet and clog it up. I usually have that bathroom door closed anyway for the whole toilet/water/safety issue.

Okay, this is really odd and gross, but when I throw a dirty dipe in the toilet, it soaks up all the water within about a minute. Does this happen to everyone else? And it's important to make sure DH hasn't put any Clorox tablets in the tank, right?

Yeah don't use the toilet if you put chemicals in it. I use pockets so there isn't really anything to "absorb" the water. Yes they come out wet but it isn't like throwing a prefold in there which would absorb a ton of water. I also kind of wring them out but don't twist them at all I just run my hand down it, not sure how to explain what I do, I just do it. LOL

I hold the dipe by its cleanest corner and dangle it into the toilet (seat up, corner or edge I'm holding sits on the rim of the bowl). I hold the minishower in my other hand, and aim it so the water hits the top edge of the poop at an angle so that the stream of water is almost pointed into the toilet. The angle keeps the spray from bouncing off so much, and hitting the edge of the poop at that angle will help even peanut butter poops peel off more or less in one piece.

DH just set up ours yesterday and it seems to be the same way. I pressed it gently several times but it still blasted into the toilet! After several tries I finally got the water pressure to ease up a little bit.. one time. I think it's just going to take some practice for me. Good luck!!

Well, I think I'm the only one who probably spent $50 on my minishower. :( This was way back before I was really reading these boards regularly and someone mentioned Weebees. So I actually got the one below:

http://weebees.com/prodinfo.asp?number=31-10-LS

And while it was more expensive than our other one, I think it is easier to control the spray. The other one ($20 on e-bay from the Bidet Guru) is our back up and I use it sometimes on vacation. It's not quite as easy to control the spray, although you can still do it. One other advantage my Weebees one has over my other one--it has a little knob you can turn so that if you squeeze the handle, nothing happens--a must if you have a curious toddler! :P

Anyway, good luck! With practice, I was able to use our Bidet Guru one without too much of a mess.
