Are my wool covers ruined?

Somehow, in my tiredness and carelessness, I ended up drying two of our wool covers. (Can't remember the brand.) They had poop on them, and I meant to wash them only, so I could lanolize them later. I forgot, of course, and threw the whole load in the dryer on full force for 70 min. :( Are they doomed? Did they felt? And what exactly does 'felting' mean? Thanks.

Are they smaller and denser than before? If so, then they felted. I don't know how they couldn't have felted in the dryer for 70 minutes! Supposedly you can try to stretch them back out, but I never tried; just put our felted cover aside to use for the next baby.
