I've been having a fun evening of casting on - and I can do it!

I have practiced with both knitting and crochet tonight, and am looking for an easy soaker pattern for a gigantic toddler to wear - if anyone can point me in any direction, that'd be kick-arse.

In the meantime, if you're thinking about trying to knit or crochet, go for it - it was so fun once I figured it out that I didn't realize I spent an hour doing it :)

YAY! Good for you. I've just started knitting again, and it really makes time fly (unless it's being a pain ;) ). There are tons of free patterns out there as well as patterns you buy for soakers. I've only knit a couple, but here are a few links to a variety:

http://www.birdcrossstitch.com/soakers/pattern/ (free pattern, knit flat)
http://www.fernandfaerie.com/freesoakerpattern.html (free knit in the round pattern, also has patterns for sale)
http://www.dandeliondreamers.com/soakerpatterns.htm (crochet pattern)
http://www.warmheartwoolies.com/Store/WsDefault.asp?Cat=PatternsforSale (knit flat partially, then in the round)
http://www.littleturtleknits.com/pages/diaperingpatterns.php (patterns for pants, skirts, soakers and a wrap. The wrap is knit flat with crocheted gussets.)
http://www.woolywonder.com (has lots of different pants & soaker patterns, also a free wetbag pattern which would be good for practicing in the round knitting)

The best part is that if you find a good site, they usually have excellent pattern help, and sometimes general knitting advice. I get help in the wooly wonder forum as well as little turtle knits. And there's always a local stitch n bitch group as well. Happy knitting and crocheting!

Thanks! I'm going to give the Tiny Birds pattern a shot first, and then see about the others. I can't wait to be able to knit some socks for myself :)
