I think I read something about using regular fleece pants over a fitted. Would these work?

And would it be appropriate to use them for a newborn?

Thanks :)

As long as they're 100% polyester, they should be fine. The only reason I might hesitate to use it on a newborn is that the newborn poop is leaky and if it leaks out of the diaper, no problems, the pants will catch it, but you'll still probably end up with poop on the legs area, even if it is contained by the pants. Does that make sense?

What Eileen said, with the added comment that when DS was a newborn and in sposies 100% of the time, his newborn poop often leaked all over no matter which diaper we put him in. Almost all of his first few weeks worth of clothes were ruined with poop stains, and if I'd realized then that fleece doesn't stain, I would've jumped at these pants, and any fleece sleepers that I could find.

My experience with fleece is that it is fine if they are up and moving, but when they are in a position that compressed the fleece I would get wicking after a while. Car seat, naps, etc. when they might be in one position. A newborn won't be moving much, but they also don't weigh much, so not as much compression. These pants are microfleece, so they may not be thick enough to work well.

I guess, I'm not really giving you an answer, am I? :-) Try it and let us know!

Oh, I couldn't see the link for the pants. Microfleece would probably be too thin to do any good. You want 100% polyester fleece, but they need to be decently thick or it won't act as a barrier for anything! It's why microfleece makes a good stay-dry liner--the liquid passes through easily and gets separated from the skin and the absorbent material (diaper).

One thing I've noticed about fleece or wool pants in general, is that they don't cover the entire diaper, so sometimes your kid can get irritated in the inner thigh area, where the wet diaper brushes against the top of their legs. I don't know if that makes any sense, but what I'm trying to say is that pants don't cover the entire diaper like a cover would.
