Hi! I am all for trying the "naked time" approach to potty training, but I have wall-to-wall carpeting and am not sure how well that would work out. Can anyone else who's BTDT give me some input? Thanks!

I think it all depends on the child and whether they are really ready or not.
We have wall to wall carpeting, and are still using this approach with Joshua. The first day we had 2 accidents (one on the couch--yuck, and one on the floor). I cleaned it up as best as I could. But after that, I think the light bulb went off in his head, and he figured it out because there have been no more accidents! And that was over almost 2 months ago!

I think I've heard this referred to as the 3-day $100 approach - you let them walk around naked for 3 days and then pay $100 to have the carpet cleaned, LOL. (Well, you might not me LOLing if it's your carpet...)

Anyway, I haven't BTDT yet, but I do know a few people who just restricted access to a room or two and then did actually have the carpet cleaned when it was over. In each case the kiddos did learn to use the potty within a couple of days.

Yep, this was exactly how it was for my DD as well. Luckily we had no poop accidents and only a couple of urine ones. Cleaned it up with spot cleaner. Two days and she had it completely mastered!

Yep, two friends did that and it worked just fine. When the kid is actually ready, it shouldn't take that long. Unlike my kid, who likes to do it about once a day, but isn't quite ready. :P

I saw something called Urine Away in the pet department at Meijer today :). It says it works on pet or people urine. I think I'd go with the "get the carpet cleaned" approach, myself.

Sorry so OT, but Amy, I hadn't noticed the pink coloring on your ticker before! Big congrats on your little girl - how lovely. :)

didn't matter for us because we were planning to tear up all the carpet (which we JUST did in the living room- dining room to go- and replaced the carpet upstairs) BUT i will say that it was VERY rare that he would have an accident while naked.

perhaps you could put out some waterproof crib pads and toss a bunch of toys on them and sit down and play. have the little potty right there where you are playing. we moved the little potty into the living room for a while. (be sure to put a waterproof pad under the potty in case of "spills!")

Yep, I just never ended up doing any naked time. LOL.
