This looks fascinating- have any of you heard of these?

We have a trial pack, but haven't tried them yet. Will report when we do... probably sometime during the coming week.

Oh, please, please do. I am very interested in knowing more about them. Though since DS is two, maybe we won't have much longer in diapers . . . (a mother can dream!).

I know that a few cloth-diapering mamas have looked at these at said they wanted to try them. A word of caution: they contain the same gel-beads that most of us hate and try to avoid. Yet, we are supposed to flush that chemical down the toilet into the water supply system? I wouldn't do it! Besides the fact that they are trying to market these diapers as being more environmentally and baby friendly, but really they are just disposable flushable diapers, complete with gel beads and all.

On a side note, I do/have used disposable diapers. But I knew what they contained. I feel like this website and it's marketing is a bit misleading unless you read everything.

Yes, they do contain polyacrylate and wood pulp, listed under "what are gdiapers made of? on the website:
http://www.gdiapers.com/madeof

The polyacrylate can be composted... actually, it's the same stuff that's sold to put in plant soil to help it retain water so you water less in drought conditions (or if you don't water houseplants often enough :) ).

Actually, the whole "flushable" part can be composted if it's only peed on (not pooped on, obviously). I'd rather compost them than flush anyhow, as we don't have enough water. But yes, if you want to avoid all superabsorbants, it's definitely in these.

See this page for some links about the polyacrylate:
http://home.howstuffworks.com/question207.htm

As far as our experience, we tried it last night and DS cried until we took it off, then immediately peed into a cloth diaper. It must soemhow feel different enough from other diapers (cloth and disposables) that he didn't want to pee in it?? We'll give it one more go this evening. If it doesn't work, we will still use the pants part with a prefold as an insert, instead of their inserts.

That's an interesting reaction from your son. I am on the fence- I want to try them, but also wonder how much longer Liam will be in diapers. Hard to say, could be a few months or another year :)

I'm hoping that his sensitivity makes it easier to potty train him... Maybe we'd do well at EC, too, but I work outside of the home and my DH is not quite up for it :)

As it is, he requires very frequent changes of any type of diaper. He doesn't tolerate having a wet diaper well at all, whether it's fleece or microfiber topped cloth or superabsorbant disposable, even if the surface feels dry to my fingers... At first I thought that he must have some rash or irritation that is uncomfortable when he pees, but he's been rash-free (except for some peri-anal redness and a few anal fissures early on with the worst of the frequent newborn poop).

He "asks" for a new diaper very quickly when wet. First, he looks persistently toward the diaper changing area in a given room; babbles di-di-di (no, we're not imagining things, our friends have spontaneously noticed his use of this phoneme too -- I reinforce its use at every change by changing him as soon as he uses it and by repeating it to him during the change); he eventually fusses. If he's wearing a wet cloth or a "full" disposable, he will wait to pee more until he has a new one on, and then let go again.

This does mean that he has not leaked since very early on, but also means that it's harder for him to sleep long stretches.
