View Full Version : Beautiful Fitteds & Boring Covers: Why?

I've got a gorgeous Samuel's Fitted dyed dipe on the way from the Swap, so now I need a cover. Why do they make beautiful fitteds if I just have to cover it up?? I read about babes going coverless at home...is this risky and asking for a wet spot on the carpet? I'm confused. :) Any recs for a reasonably priced cover (I'm thinking fleece?) are also appreciated. TIA!

Me too. Apparently, the question has been asked often. Some liken it to the fun of putting on pretty lingerie for yourself. You just enjoy it even if it gets covered up. But for me, it hurts to see a pretty fitted with a plain white cover on it.

I also didn't get the fitted without a covers around the house until very recently. My daughter is 20 months, wets less often, sometimes tells me if she's wet, and it's really hot now. I find myself wondering if she;s hot under any cover. Sometimes putting her in just a fitted seems like a good thing to do. I never ever felt this way before this summer, so you might re-visit the issue in a year.

For fleece covers, I love my lightweight Windpro from angeldrydiapers.com as do many others here. Ask her if she has any other colors than what's on her websites as her stock sometimes changes faster than the site. The cover is really trim with a wide front that ensures it fits for a long time. She'll dye the aplix for you, or leave it white, whichever you prefer, and you can have colored foldover elastic ifyou want. She'll also use touchtape instead of Aplix if you prefer.

Yes, you are getting a beautiful diaper, lol! ;)

I agree that it is sort of funny having cute diapers and then coming them up. I have a great winnie the pooh one that I love but then cover it up with something so it seems a shame. Mostly I just buy diapers I love because they are soft and absorbent. My favorites right now are Bijou and SugarPlumBaby (yummy). I'm also using AngelDry fleece covers, have a nighttime staccinator for naps (which is HUGE but does work), and then I have bumpy covers. I need to buy some more from AngelDry since I only ordered two to see if I liked them. I found with other covers, the velcro wouldn't necessarily stick completey whereas with their velcro, I almost can't get it open it's so strong. I've never felt velcro that strong before.

I also have a bummi polar fleece cover (newborn size) and it's okay, but not as nice as the angeldry I don't think.

Aha! You're the one who got it before I could! ;) Yes, the age old question. You can definitely go coverless, but you could also do something like one of the snap-EZ nylon covers, where you can sort of see the diaper through the cover. I will say that it's much easier going coverless when your babe is old enough to run around, but before Kaya was crawling, I used to do it by putting her on a Neat sheet. For a reasonably priced fleece cover (or wool if you prefer), I LOVE my angeldrydiapers.com ones. I have two lightweight windpro ones and two interlock wool wraps from her (plus I have a couple of small windpro ones for this next baby) and have been VERY happy with them. The wool ones I can use for night time, while the lightweight windpro ones are only used during the day.

you can also kinda see through the bummis pull on covers.

Tammy: I asked Steph at Angeldry to use a less strong velcro on my recent order of a wool and fleece cover. I previously had a small pocket dipe from her that had yellow orange velcro that was super strong and I disliked that element. She was very willing to do it and it's the perfect solution: soft and average strong. I just can't remember whether what she used is Aplix or touchtape, but Steph knows.

The pretty ones are so DD can be persuaded to put them on: "Purple diaper! Purple diaper!" :)

They are also so I can tell them apart -- I try to give them equal wear.

But I like Karen's idea that they are like pretty underwear.

We do wear them coverless at home too. Maybe at your DD's age that's not a great idea.

But... you have a good point. If I am going to invest in a really pretty thing, I think it would be a wool cover.

Oops, sorry Eileen - and you were the one who recommended them to me! If it doesn't fit, I'll let you know first. :)

Thanks everyone! Angeldry cover it is. DD is usually standing and cruising so I think we'll let her go coverless sometimes just so I can enjoy the cuteness! Thanks again!

We go coverless at home sometimes, but I say this is an excuse to buy a pretty wool cover or soaker. I personally much prefer wool to fleece. Good luck finding a cover you like and enjoy the diaper.

Hee, hee, will do. But keep in mind that my 25 pounder can still fit the small ones (although they're a bit low-rise).
