OK, finished some shorties and I just have to share (DH just doesn't get excited over these...):

First one is Fishermans wool - natural color, elastic waist and hemmed cuffs:

This one is Fishermans wool, dyed with generic kool-aid, drawstring waist and rolled cuffs:

And, finally, Malibrigo wool, elastic waist and seed stitch cuffs:

Thanks! DS1 picked out that purple himself! That yarn is soooo nice to feel. I am hoping that they will still fit him next year without a diaper, since he will probably be PT by then. If not, I'm sure DS2 will wear them.

Those are precious! Where do you get the patterns for those? I'll try to get my g-mother to make some. Tia!

They are basically all variations on the Aburey Doodle Pants:

The drawstring waist is from Little Turtle Knits original soaker:

The elastic waist and hemmed cuffs are from this pattern:

Once you have the basic pattern, it is just a matter of finishing the waist and cuffs. I put the short rows a bit more spaced than in the DoodlePants pattern and added a few for DS2 since he has a bit more pot-belly, but it really doesn't matter too much.

You can also make these into longies, obviously, just by making longer legs. You could put a ribbed cuff on the bottom if you wanted, or ruffles for a girl. I've got a book on order from the library on finishing edges that I hope to find some interesting ideas from.
