Most nights DD wakes up dry after 12+ hours, but lately we've had more wet mornings.

We were using two Cotton Babies microfiber inserts. About a month ago she started having occasional leaks. I tried a CB insert and an infant prefold in case she was peeing too fast for the microfiber to absorb. We went a couple weeks with no leaks with that combo, but in the last week we've had a several wet mornings.

Now what should I try?

Option #1: Change DD's diaper at some point during the night.
I know her diapers are lasting at least 9 hours because she's dry at her early morning feeding. I stopped changing her during her nightime feedings because I figured she was going to start sleeping through the night... um, yeah... that hasn't happened. It would be easy enough to change her diaper when I feed her around 11 p.m. Does anyone wake DC for a diaper change once they've started sleeping through the night? I can't see myself doing that, but I guess it would be better than chaning a diaper, pj's, and the sheets in the early morning hours.

Option #2: Add another layer to the stuffings I'm currently using.
When is a diaper too stuffed? I could try adding a doubler to the two inserts or insert/prefold combo.

Option #3: Try other inserts.
I'd like to avoid hemp because of the stink and more complicated wash routine, but I might be willing to try it if there are glowing endorsements.

Option #4: ???
Have I overlooked something obvious? Or not-so-obvious?

Thanks for your help!
Jodi

Well, for my heavy wetter, we had to use a hemp/MF combo. If you don't want to use hemp because of the stink issue, maybe you could get some hemp material and just fold it like you would a towel. Since the material is one-ply when in the wash, it might be less likely to build-up?

And, IMO, a diaper is too stuffed if it causes gaps in the legs or waist.

Not sure what nighttime diaper you're using, but here's what we do. We stuff a Fuzzibunz with a LizaJane nighttime hemp insert wrapped in a microfiber towel (from Walmart). We just started this about a week ago, but we've had no leaks yet! Previously, we had been doing 3 microfiber towels in the FB and were usually ok, but getting more wet mornings as time went on, hence, the hemp. So far we have no hemp stink with any of our diapers and inserts, though I know that could change! www.lizajanebaby.com (made by our very own Liza!)

I'll second the LizaJane nighttime inserts! We don't even use a towel. I have had no leaks with these, in fact lately the only leaks at night have been sposies.

We wash them the same as all the other diapers and have had no stink. No complicated routines!

Yeah, I migrated over to hemp from terry when I realized it's heaps trimmer and really is just as easy to wash (cold rinse/spin, hot wash, extra rinse...all with the regular dipes... and we use charlies soap which doesn't leave any residue at all).

We did the same combo for a long time. Worked great.

Okay, yeah, I used a LJ night insert + large Zannadu MF towel (Kaya was and is a really heavy wetter at night) in a fleece pocket and it worked just fine.

Thanks ladies!

I put in an order for a couple inserts from Lizajane. I'm hopeful that they will solve our leaking problem.

Thanks again for your responses.
