I now it's early days, DS is only 21 months, and I may have just gotten him at the right time. But he did his first pee in the potty. Happy Dance by me!! Since we've had the potty, he's become even more interested in what goes on. He now wants to watch you, and I mean "watch you", definitely no privacy in this household.

So now we've got the first pee, anything else I should be doing to keep him interested?

Wooo Hooo!!!! Just stay excited in it :) (Maybe try first thing in the morning and after naps...those are sometimes the only pees I can catch with Leah, and we are both thrilled when she goes on the potty)

Yay!! That's fantastic! Nothing special to do, other than keeping it exciting and positive. He's on his way :-)

LOL about him watching you. DD2 did the same thing at first. She wanted to get her face RIGHT THERE to see exactly what was going on. Good thing we're not shy lol!

I think I lost any shyness during labour and delivery, very little seems to bother me anymore!

If it helps him to work out what to do, then he can watch. I just had to stop him from sticking his hand into the toilet bowl at the same time. Today, he asked me for more...sorry kiddo but mama doesn't need to pee anymore. All done.

DS is either in cloth or disposable, should I keep him in these while we're trying? Or should I do something like trainers or pull-ups? Or is it just too early for that?? It just seems to take a bit to get his clothes off...

I also think I'll get a potty insert. He always wants to do what mum and dad do. When we first got the potty, he kept pointing to the toilet. Maybe, if I give him a choice, that might help.....

I just don't know how much to encourage with this? Do I go all out with nakie time and see what happens? Or, just put him on a few times a day and see if he makes progress then move on to nakie time and training pants etc?

He peed again. I put him on the potty, and he stood up as he didn't want to sit down. I was also going to the toilet. He was watching, as he does, and started to pee, so I quickly sat him down and he finished up in the potty.

So, twice now, here's hoping for 3rd time lucky....

Congrats!!!
I think it was about 5yrs ( with DS1&2) that I didnt get to pee alone.
Nathan now prepares the toilet paper for me. Then stands there and says 2 wipes mommy LOL ( thats what I tell him when he wipes his bottom 2 wipes to get it all clean)

Yep, Kaya still likes to watch and she even wants to "wipe" me. She likes to grab the cloth wipes and "prepare" them for me by squeezing water on them too. Ah well. Whatever works, right? As for pull-ups/trainers, etc., I think going to underwear (and yes, there will be some accidents) or thicker underwear if you prefer would be better than the pull-ups. The pull-ups seem too much like diapers to me, I think. The Bright Bots (from Australia, I believe) are very much like underwear with a slightly thicker area of absorbtion and some water proofing. We just call it underwear and Kaya will be using them as such until she outgrows them. It's not like the other cloth trainers that absorb a fair bit, so yes, we had some accidents, but Kaya "got it" I think because of that.

I *think* we have a pair of those - mum sent me some nappies and such. I'll have to try them. So far today, DS has wanted the potty..keeps asking for it, then resists taking his clothes off, will sit on it for 2 seconds, stand up, sit down a few times, then when I say potty time is over, he wants to stay on it and doesn't want a diaper. We tried nakie time with 1 accident. No successful pees in the potty.

I don't know if I should continue or just give up.... I'm exhausted.

It'll happen, don't give up yet (well, stick a pullup on him if you are truly worn out.. that's the only way I can make it on 'nakey days' after about the third pee on the floor with Leah...). There's one step forward, two steps back then bam, he'll get it.

THanks everyone. I'll keep at it...yesterday I was thinking that maybe he was ready but I was't! We'll take it one day at a time.
