i need to strip my washing machine. dh washes his work clothes in there and their is quite a build-up of dirt stains around the walls and stuff, i've tried to wipe it down with some simple green, but that's just not working. it's not really staining other clothes, or making the whites look dingy, but it's pretty unattractive :(

i've just started an empty load on hot with a squirt of dawn, hopefully that'll work, if not do you mamas have any other suggestions?

You could try turning your water heater up. Becky(Bcky2) told me she turns the cold water off to her machine ( valve behind the machine) so it is 100% hot water.
Im not a big bleach user but if your only running the machine without clothes you could try a cup or 2 of bleach

Can I hijack a little? How would you ladies recommend washing a front loader? I've seen several instructions (including at diaper hyena) for top loaders, but none for front loaders.

Thanks!

eta: Kristen, I had to do a little hunting, but maybe this article would be helpful? And I think turning up the hot water temp temporarily might help also!

Try this page... and yeah, I LOVE My Charlie's...good thing, too, because I bought the 5 gallon bucket of powder just on recommendations from everyone here, lol.

I was dealing w/ a major buildup issue (seems like it was a combo of used dipes which were filled w/ residue, and then maybe I had some washing machine buildup too because even running it on hot without soap resulted in soapy bubbles).

Anyway, I used charlie's, DH turned up the hot water, and I did run a load or two of dipes with calgon as well. Things seem better now. YMMV but Charlie's is worth a try IMO :) I think someone said they used to use it on industrial washing machines to clean them.

Okay, I may have to pick up a box to try cleaning my front loader....
