an all natural boutique was interested in my making some organic baby clothes for them. she said she is lacking in the cutsey organic department. so i want to make them some pretty colors, instead of just natural. but i don't want to "undo" the naturalness of the fabric. do you all organic using folks think that the dye affects the "organicness?"

My gut feeling says yes...but then, what are dyes made of? Is there some big earth killing process to make dyes? Are there any organic dyes? (I used to have a friend who was a chemist at an ink company, that stuff is naaaaasty...barrels of toxic waste....)

What if you used plant dyes?

I would say that unless you use "earth-friendly" non-toxic dyes, then most people who really go for organic would not be interested. I'm sure there are companies out there who sell them. Maybe check over at MDC in the WAHM or Arts and Crafts department.
