A friend of mine is expecting a baby girl, and she is tentatively interested in CDing. She loves the little ruffled butt diaper covers that you sometimes see, so I was thinking of getting her a Proraps velcro cover and sewing some ruffles on the butt. I can loan her a variety of diapers to try, and then she'll know what she wants to use, and can buy a stash. If she decides against cloth, she could still put the cover over a sposie if she really wanted the ruffle look.

My question is, if I sew through the cover, will it leak? Is there a particular type of thread I should use? Can I perhaps reseal the PUL by tumble drying the cover on medium or high after I am done sewing?

I'm not a seamstress, but I think I can handle hand-stitching some ruffles on a cover. :) Will it work?

Use an all polyester thread (like Gutterman) and a ball point needle. Then wash and dry on high heat. If that doesn't seal it enough, look for seam sealer at a camping store to paint on the stitching or NikWax.
