Still on the quest to switch my 18-mo-old over to cloth...part of it is just finding the time to do my research!

Here are my questions:

1) It seems that everyone has their own routine for washing, so I imagine it's a certain amount of trial and error. Would it be safe to say that if the diaper SMELLS clean, I've done my job correctly? That's the ultimate goal?

2) If I decide to ask my daycare to participate (as opposed to p/t CDing), what do they do with poop? I can't imagine that it would be very easy (or sanitary) to scrape it off into the Diaper Champ...even a disposable liner wouldn't go neatly. Can I tell them to just wrap them up and I can clean them when we get home? Or is that totally gross? Is that what you do with a poopy dipe when you're out and about?

TIA!

1) works for me :)

2) i wrapped them up and took them home - it worked fine. the only drawback was when dh would change a poopy dipe out and about and just leave it in the car...ewww!

1. Yes. If it smells clean, it's clean. Actually, the goal should be to smell like nothing at all, IMO.

2. Not sure. By 18 months, I'm usually too lazy and use sposies when out <ducking under a rock>. If they don't have access to a toilet right at the changer, then I would think wrapping it up would be OK. I have done that at times and while not great, does work.

1. I've been going by smell. Since I use Allen's Naturally detergent, no fragrances, it's pretty easy to smell even the tiniest whiff of ick.

2. I guess you can just tell them to wrap it up and send it home. If we're out and about and DS does the deed, I'll put it in a wetbag to deal with when we get home.

1) Agree with everyone else and you. :)

2) For BF'd poop, they just wrap it up (or I do) and put it in the wetbag and I clean it at home. For the solid stuff, they (or I) dump it in the toilet unless one is not available. In which case I'll wrap it in the dipe and dump it when I get home.

Jessica-

Are you thinking of pocket diapers? If so, I became a fan of the BumGenius 2.0s over, for example, FuzziBunz, due in part to the velcro tabs on the BGs that you can use to secure the dirty diaper closed. I always reached for the BGs when we were out of the house.

So... if your DCP can't dump the poop in the potty, they can roll and velcro it closed and stick your dirty dipes in a plastic bag for you to take home.

Velcro, in general, would probably be better than snaps for this reason.

Good luck!

Thanks, Marisa...that's really great advice that I didn't think of!

I am thinking that we'll try the BG 2.0s, particularly for daycare. I suspect that I'll need to make it as simple as possible for them in order to not get any flack. :)
