Hi all,

The elastic on some of our older FBs is giving out. I don't really sew, but was hoping to try to replace the elastic (mostly around the legs). Does anyone have experience or tips on how? Thanks.

I haven't done mine yet, but I do have some experience making PUL pockets. This is what I am planning for mine.

First thing to do is unstitch the casing seam. Be very careful to not put holes in the PUL.

Then unstitch the elastic and toss it.

Replace with 3/8" polybraid elastic, which you can find at JoAnn. You will need to use either a 3-step zig-zag or a long straight stitch to put the new elastic on. Use a ballpoint needle to avoid snagging the knit side.

Once the elastic is on, turn it right side out and sew the casing line again with a long straight stitch.

I would follow up with a run through a hot dryer to try and seal any holes, but you may need to use seam sealer or Nikwax to keep them from leaking later.
