View Full Version : Swim diapers for a sprinkler park?

Okay, I realize I must be completely dense, but I just don't get this at all.

We go to a place that requires swim diapers for the kids and specifically says swim diapers vs. regular diapers.

I totally understand that swim diapers hold in poop and let out water (and urine), so they don't balloon up (it was really cute when my friend's daughter went in the kiddie pool with a regular diaper and her butt just got bigger and bigger and bigger... :) )

But this isn't a pool, it's a sprinker park. DS doesn't get all that wet. At least not so that he really needs a swim diaper. I hate swim diapers because invariably, he always pees on me! I thought it was a case where they might have thought he didn't have ANY diaper on vs. having swim diaper, but no. DH got yelled it when they saw DS had a regular diaper and he had to go buy a swim one. I don't get it. I would think a regular diaper actually contains more in this case and that would be a good thing?

What am I missing?

Nevermind! I got the answer today. They told someone else that the gel from the regular diapers gets in their pipe. See, now if they had just told me that to begin with, I would have understood! Sometimes explanations are good!

Ahhh...now I get it, too. When we played in the sprinkler park at Davis Farmland I was surprised how many kids had on swim dipes vs. regular since they weren't getting soaked. My DD had a regular dipe on (cloth) and I didn't understand the need for swim diapers there. Thanks, Debbie, for clearing that up!

Hey Sarah,

That's exactly where I was talking about!

We were there and not only did someone yell at DH to put DS in a swim diaper, but she kept telling DS he was going the wrong way through a sprinkler. Okay, I can understand when you have a lot of kids but a) there was hardly anyone there and b) DS is two, he doesn't understand that or when she kept saying "Green to Blue is the way through." Yeah, he doesn't know his colors, that's not going to help.

The other one I understand in theory was when she kept telling him "no running." But again, DS is two, he doesn't understand, and he is has two speeds, stop and go!

Haha! Yeah, one of the employees stopped DD by putting her hand on her shoulder and said "no running"! My DD also has two speeds...running and pretending to listen and slowing down for a second and then resuming normal speed.
