Hello,
It's been over a month since I last posted, mostly due to the fact that my wonderful son has arrived! Matthew Clayton was born on May 19 at 10:30 am at 7 pounds, 3 ounces and is close to 10 pounds now (even I am shocked at his growth!). I couldn't post before now because my husband (in an attempt to get organized before the baby) had given away our old computer and we just got it together and have the new one set up as of today! It's amazing how much we put off, counting on that May 27 due date! We didn't expect him to be early!
Here's the delivery short version: My water broke in the middle of the night and we trooped down to the hospital and got checked in by 3:30 am. Contractions were extremely intense by 5:30 and I had an epidural at 6:30. At 10:00 we were ready to push, which I did, and Matthew immediately got stuck and his heart rate dropped to 60. The doctor got really serious and my husband and I got really scared. After what seemed like forever but was probably 5 minutes, the doctor gave me a pretty serious episiotomy and I pushed, she pulled and he was here! The pushing phase lasted all of 15 minutes due to this problem. It scared me (and I'll share the episiotomy details with people who are afraid of the recovery) but Matthew is completely beautiful and has been worth it in every way.
I can't thank everyone enough for their encouragement on this board and I hope that I can help anyone half as much!
