Hi,
I am so happy to announce the arrival of our little Finn Henry, who was born Thursday, October 16th, weighing 7 lbs. 2 oz. and measuring 20 1/2 inches.
Labor went nothing like I imagined (as everyone tends to to say). My water broke at midnight on Tuesday and our doula suggested that we try to get some rest. We were both so excited sleep was hard but we managed to get a few hours. By the morning my contractions still hadn't started. The Dr. told me to head to the hospital nonetheless. We fought it for a bit, ran a few errands, got a smoothie, took a walk in the park, etc. but finally went to the hospital at about 10 a.m. I was just 1 cm. and still no contractions.
I received two doses of cervidil over the next 24 hours and while contractions did start, they were only about 5-8 minutes apart and by Thurs. morning I was only 2 cm, but 90% effaced and extremely tired with such little sleep over the previous two nights my pain was, well, painful!
Our doula suggested that my body would probably respond really well to an epidural so we decided to get one. I was upset but was so tired sleep sounded extremely enticing. At 8:30 a.m. on Thurs. I got my epidural and by 12 noon I was complete. I started pushing at 12:15 and delivered little Finn Henry an hour and ten minutes later. I felt the delivery as my epidural had run out! So, it was a "natural" birth but an "un-natural" labor.
Anyway, we are all doing well and busy falling in love with each other!
