I started poking through these boards nearly a year ago when I was pregnant, and spent a lot of time lurking until a few months before he was born. ;) I dunno, for some reason I stopped visiting about a month or so before I went back to the States to give birth. (My husband's job had us overseas.) But I did learn a lot, and I can't tell you how helpful you all were (and still are!) when it's come to buying baby stuff and just babies in general.
Now, I think I might have posted a brief introduction then under the 2003 due dates topic, but never got much farther than that. ::blush:: I'm just horribly shy a lot of the time, even on the internet. I started poking around here again recently, and feel like I really probably ought to just be brave, stop being so much of a lurker, and introduce myself.
Anyway, my name is Melissa. I'm married, and we now have one son, Taran Reed, our first child. :) I was due Nov. 13, 2003, but he was late and arrived Nov. 20 instead. I was scheduled to be induced that day, but was already making some progress on my own anyway, so my mother says that it was more of an augmentation than an actual induction, since it basically just made labor go faster than it otherwise would have been. He was 8 lbs 9.1 oz, and 22 inches long. :)
I had an absolutely wonderful delivery, was thrilled that I did it without drugs, and cannot begin to say how wonderful my doula was. (Or how happy I am that we decided to have a doula!) Heck, my midwife was wonderful too. :) And having a Lactation Consultant for a mother has been such a HUGE help as well. I went out to my mother's in Washington state to have Taran, and my husband joined me there about a week before he was born, staying there until he was six weeks old. (Then he had to go back to work.) We're from Northern VA outside of DC ourselves, though. However, I have to say that I want to go back out there to have the rest of our children each time we have another. ;)
Taran has been such a joy since he was born. Now obviously, we have our moments every now and then (such as the week after he was born when I was suddenly wondering what we'd been thinking when we decided we wanted to start having children ::grin::), but he's honestly just a very good baby and we've been horribly lucky so far. He's now just a bit over four months, and at his last appointment weighed 15 lbs 3.9 oz, and was 26.5 inches long.
Let's see, my husband and I have been married almost 5 years, Taran is our first, and we definitely plan on having more. We also have two somewhat spoiled cats, one of whom still occasionally doesn't look like she's sure about this wiggly, noisy thing I brought home with me. ;) I'm not really working exactly, at least not in the sense of a typical job, though I do have somewhat of a job online. (I even get paid a bit for it!) I also enjoy reading quite a bit, cooking, cross-stitch, I just learned how to knit, and doing various things on the internet like webpages and such. (I can't say I've had much time to update my webpage since Taran was born though. ::grin::)
I'm also sometimes very capable of rambling on like there's no tomorrow, in case this introduction didn't show that. ::wink::
Anyway, since I think Taran is just absolutely adorable, I also have to share a few pictures of him. ;) (And yes, I'm probably a bit biased, but I just can't help it!) Someday, I will get my website updated and they'll all be there, but for now I've just put them up on my AOL web space so I can share them with others. Sorry if they take a bit to load, but hopefully they're worth it!

So, um, I guess that's probably a lot more than I needed to share. ;) But hopefully it makes up for all the lurking, and hopefully I'll improve from here!
