Maya wrap sling seems to slip - am I doing this wrong?

I have been using my new Maya ring sling for a few weeks, and I'm having a little bit of trouble with it. The fabric is the color-grown organic cotton, which seems to have a bit of a sheen to it. It slips at the rings, making it hard to tighten. (Does that make sense?)

I wondered if anyone else had experienced this, perhaps with this same fabric...? I haven't washed it yet, so maybe that will help. I also can't seem to spread the fabric over my shoulder correctly, so maybe I'm just "sling challenged!"
