View Full Version : Just out of curiosity. Are your DH's into baby wearing as well?

If so, what type of sling/carrier do they prefer?

I think DH would definitely be interested. He's so excited about our little one. He can't wait until DD is here! :-) I recently took the plunge and ordered the cotton zolo in natural. I'm still second guessing my decision since it has not arrived yet. Anyway, I'm wondering if I should be considering something else for DH, so I thought I'd seek out your opinions and experiences. TIA!

My dh wears our baby in the house to comfort him. He likes the MnM pouch more than how much I like it. I don't think he would wear it in public or if anyone's around, and I am not sure if I asked him he would say he enjoyed it. I think it is more of a convenience factor.

I don't think he'd go for a ring sling. I am not sure if I am sold on the ring sling, but I at least would like to learn to give myself a choice. Hope you like the zolo!

I bought a Theodore Beene to wear Nolan in, his dad saw it & asked if it was for him. He is the manly man type & I was shocked that he would actually "wear" the baby.

My DH is very into wearing our DS. He LOVES it. He even has his own slings and at a wedding, even used my ring sling! He, too, reaches for different carriers for different things. The Baby Bjorn gets used if we are doing stuff around the house or neighborhood and DS is awake. The sling is used if we're trying to get DS to nap. The Wilkinet is used when we are going for longer stretches and DS will be awake (e.g. hiking, walks along the beach, etc.) Basically, DH uses all the same things that I use.

That being said, I think it is somewhat unusual for a DH to use slings as often as mine does. If you want to encourage DH's wearing, I would get him a Bjorn or Theodore Bean or Kelty or something else a little more manly, at least to start;).

My DH prefers the Baby Bjorn but I'm working on getting him to wear a sling.

My husband liked the Theodore Beene, but did admit it hurt his neck and upper back after awhile. I got him a Maya Pouch, but he hasn't taken time to play around with it yet.

My son, age 12, has his own Maya Pouch too and will wear her at home and when we are out. In fact, he wore her at his school open house and impressed the heck outta all his teachers. :)

hi there,
my dh wore my KKACP so much that i ordered him his own:)!
my medium was too small for him so now he has his light khaki large for himself. he wears it both in & outside of the house. i also ordered a KKsolerveil for the 2 of us to share. we haven't had much time to play w/ it yet...i'm intimidated by the rings & am hoping together (read:he) we can figure it out...

My DH wears slings all the time when we go out. The simpler, the better in his book. He likes the wraparound types like didy/girasol/ellaroo. In fact, he bought the didy himself to have something neutral since our girasol is very bright (but he wears both.) He also wears ring slings.

He hated our Ergo. Said it looked "too suburban, with all those straps and buckles." He also dislikes the Bjorn for the same reason (plus it's not that comfy) and talks about how much he dislikes the Kelty types.

I know it's a little uncommon for dads to wear babies, but not unheard of. FWIW, my DH describes himself as a "metrosexual." He wears Brioni, Armani, and Versace and makes sure his shoes coordinate with his belt and watchband. He has no problem wearing the baby, but still FREAKS out if she drools on his cashmere!

Anything else? I don't want to spend a fortune on a 2nd carrier. We'll see how DH reacts when my zolo arrives, but I'm a planner so I thought I'd go ahead and look around.

Which of these is the most comfortable/best buy?
Which Kelty carrier would you recommend?

Also, where is the best place to find these items?

Sorry for having so many newbie questions. :-)
TIA

When I first ordered my natural cotton Zolo, DH said that he wouldn't be caught dead wearing a ring sling in public! He tried it a few times around the house, though, and liked how much easier it made holding DS. Now, if we go out shopping together and DS gets fussy and needs to be taken out of the stroller, DH will always be the one wearing him in the sling because his back doesn't get as sore as mine does with DS's weight. I don't think the Zolo sling would be DH's first choice but he definitely prefers using it over just carrying DS in his arms so he puts it on and doesn't worry about how he looks in it.

My Dh will wear Jack in public on a sling. We are getting a Bjorn mainly for him.. but he also wants to wear the zolo we are about to order. We tried a zolo and he ended up trying it for longer than I did and got DS to fall asleep in it. He was wearing Jack in a Corner Bakery with a Toile Zolo. We will probably get the natural one but he woudl even use the Toile if I would want that one.

I think he would wear DS in just about anything because he wants to do EVERYTHING I do with DS except for breastfeeding ;) He is an awesome daddy!

We have a baby bjorn that DH has tried but baby doesn't quite like it yet. I have a pouch that we all seem to like and DH has worn it out in public. I have thought of getting dh a fleece pouch for x-mas but haven't made any decisions yet.

My DH loves to wear our 15 month old DS in a KK Fleece Pouch. I bought him his very own in navy blue with black trim. It looks very "manly" ;) He will even wear it out in public (which he always said he would never do--but now that Josh weighs 25lbs., his arms can't take carrying him.) He also likes my Rosado sling. It is a ring sling with a sewn closed tail. Very much like an Over The Shoulder Baby Holder, but less bulky. However, he won't wear it in public, because he says it looks too feminine. He also will not wear an open tailed sling (like a Maya Wrap or Zolo) in public, but will use it if Joshua is fussing to be held, and his pouch and Rosado sling aren't around. I think open tailed slings have more of a flowy feminine look to them, and thats why most men don't like them very much.
For what it's worth, my dH always said he wouldn't be caught dead wearing a sling, no matter how much he loved our DS. He said he woudl rather just carry him in his arms. But our DS ended up very colicy and needy, and DH realized that slings are a saving grace to tired parents!

bjorn, bjorn, bjorn. most sling users don't like them, but i do. i have a new native sling, a baby bjorn and a kelty ridgeline backpack. dh was SO crazy for the bjorn. and now he is even MORE in love with the backpack. the backpack is my fav, too. but i love my sling for running errands. dh wore the bjorn at the grocery store all the time, doing housework, on walks, trying to get him to sleep...

I bought DH a hotsling and he has used it around the house a few times and he liked it. I keep telling him that now that Ryan is a little older and seems to do really well in the hip carry he needs to try again. I am going to get another sling (I have a Zolo and a hotsling) and thought I would show DH my huge folder of slings to look at and let him choose his own now that he knows he likes them. There are some sites that show men wearing them so that might help if you show him some on-line. There was one on that show Nip Tuck (on the FX channel) with the main character wearing one and Beth (egoldber on the boards) found it online....http://www.rockinbabysling.com/
