With winter coming my 10 month old, 32 inch tall son no longer fits into his front carrier with his heavy coat on. (My DH somehow manage to stuff him into the Baby Bjorn Sunday, but he couldn't snap the top snaps, not like my DS was going anywhere, he looked like a cork in a bottle!)
I went out looking for a back pack carrier for him. I actually settled on a different model/maker, but then found a Kelty Meadow on sale brand new at REI for $70 (normally $100). The cheapest I could find one on EBAY was $55-60. This is the top line model, so I'm not sure if it would do for heavy duty hiking, but it looks fine for the 1 hour or so walks. I just thought I'd pass the information on if anyone else was looking. I'm not sure how long the sale is going on for. You can get it shipped to a local REI store, if you have one, and save on the shipping charge.
