Angie.. i am in carrier-depression also. You know, when you get all excited over a carrier you get in the mail and it is not quite what you expect.

Anyway, I got the Moby wrap in a lovely shade of red. It is more fabric than i imagined. I tried to put it on on my own but had to get dh's help. The reason for this is that i could not remove the slack on the X behind my back on my own for some reason). It was pretty comfy to wear Leela in it and she loved both the facing-mom and facing-forward positions. However, once i took her out the material did not go back to its original tautness and i had to re-adjust it again. The whole point for me was to wear it the whole day and pop Leela in and out at will.
I think i am going to have to let it go... arrghh.. i am so frustrated.. i want to find a carrier that is easy to use.. not bulky and distributes weigh across my back and both shoulders. I can't do a back carry because Leela is too little.. maybe a Kozy or Ergo is what i need... i am just frustrated!

I hear you! I bought a MnM, and DD usually doesn't like it (she always wants her legs free). So I MADE an asian style (kozy) carrier (yes it took hours, 20 minutes at a time) and she won't sit in that either because she can't see out! Aaargh! I have been looking at the Ergo... do they have a return policy?

Edited to say:
By the way, I was thinking of trying to make a Moby style carrier (I'm thinking DD might be comfy enough in it to stay for more than 5 minutes), but can't find dimensions. It's just like t-shirt fabric right?

I just ordered a HaB for that "Pop baby in and out" factor. Hopefully it will work if not it's going to go back!

I love my EBMT, once it is on it works great. But I'm a little slow doing all those ties, so I wouldn't recommend an ABC if you're going to be putting baby in and out of it all day. But maybe once I've gotten all the tying mastered that won't be so much a problem??

I love the Ergo and it's fast to get on and off, but I can't get DS into the back without some help. DH can, but he has long arms. I can get DD in, but she's got long legs!

I'm finding all my carriers are great for a specific hold or position, but there isn't one that does everything I need!

Good luck!

Ah, I am sorry you're Moby isn't working out. I've been dying to try one. Maybe you could try an unstretchy wrap? Sorry I'm no help, I haven't tried a wrap before. I'm a little nervous because as you said it is a lot of fabric.

I'm glad you found a position that works for you. The wraps definitely have a learning curve, but once you get it, there's no going back...(JMHO, of course).

Rashmi, Are you liking it any better now since you tried the cross carry? How do you think it would be for an older baby? Would it be too hot to leave on in the summer? I'd been eyeing this too because I think it looks cool and very comfy, but I'm not sure if Emma will go for it. I've only used the KKAFP and a ringsling I made myself and I have a Kozy Carrier on order (Kelley thinks it will get made this week - woohoo!). I'm contemplating something that goes over both shoulders that might be less complicated than the Kozy for just quick in and outs.

Laurie.. the cross carry works much better than the one they recommend. It also works great in the hip carry. It is definitely a lot of material but with a tank top or a light t-shirt it might still work in the summer. It is not a quick on and quick off though. It takes at least a minute to put on. But once you have it on you can pop the baby in and out of it. I have not tried bfing in it.. but i think it might be possible.. not too sure because the fabric does cover the chest. If you are in the area you are welcome to borrow it.. or i could mail it to you to try out to see if you like it.
I just got a solarveil unpadded sling from Kangaroo Korner.. it is really light and i like it so far. They were on sale and i figured i needed something for the pool in the summer!
Oh, if you like your KKAFP, you may want to try the KKACP. I don't like it as much as the AFP but it still works..and it is easy on and off. Let me know if you want to try it and i can mail that to you too.

Is this the one they recommend that you don't like as well?

The way they describe to wrap the Moby on the instructions that come with it, I don't like that. Basically you do the X at the back first and then in the front. It is much easier to do the X in the front first and then at the back. Is this making any sense? It is a t-shirty material.. very soft and nice.

Yeah, I was thinking I could put it on and leave it on, but maybe I should wait until my Kozy arrives before I start buying anything else ;). I was thinking of using it with either Emma facing out on the front or on my back because it looks pretty secure from the pics. On the peppermint site it says that you only use one tie for all carrying positions... this confused me because in the front carry with the baby facing out, it has you pulling the "pocket" up over the baby's legs after putting their legs through the "straps". Wouldn't you be missing the "pocket" if you tried to do this same thing with the baby on your back? I don't even know if that description makes sense.

Did you order yours from Peppermint? How is their return policy? I didn't see it on the site. If they don't accept returns, I would love to try yours! But I feel bad that you just got it - maybe I could try it at the next get-together. BTW, I think I'll be able to mail you that video today, so be on the lookout!

I understand what you are describing, but does that mean it's easier to tie, easier to put baby in, or both? TIA! :)

It is easier to tie. :)
It is just as easy to put baby in both ways, but i don't think you can put baby in forward-facing in the modified cross-carry but you can put the baby in forward facing and mommy-facing in the cross-carry that the Moby manual describes! :)

I ordered from www.baby-wearing.com. Anna has great CS. When i initially disliked my Moby I had emailed her and asked her about returns. Leela had spat-up on it the minute i took it out of the box so I was not sure if i washed it the return would be nullified. Anyhoo, she was sweet and said to send it back, no problems, she would find a way to sell it on ebay or something. I thought that was really nice of her. Also, i think it was $33 including shipping and that is the lowest price i found anywhere.

Regarding the one-position for all... hmmm.. well if you do the cross-carry they describe, you can have the baby facing-front, facing-mom and i think on your back. For the hip carry, the tie is different.. but it is very comfy. In the modified cross carry (X on front first and then X on back), you can do baby facing you but i have not yet figured out baby facing front... let me try it today and let you know.

This is the wrap cross carry (dont like too much)

GREAT! I'm looking forward to seeing if facing front can be done with the easier tying method... If so I may order one to compare it with the Ergo I just ordered. But I just found out a Wilkinet does a face forward (the Ergo doesn't but looks easier to put on), so I may have to try that too! I'm having a *Carrier Catastrophe* ...Thanks for all the info!!! :)

I have the moby and am returning it because my sons chest puffs out when I wear him forward facing (he looks like he is flying Superman style)! I can not get it tight enough for his back to lay flat against my chest. I am trading it in for the Ergo.

Thanks Rashmi, I actually went ahead and ordered one from Anna just now. I just figured I'd bite the bullet and give it a try - the simplicity of this design and the stretchy fabric really appeals to me. I also got the red - I think it looks so pretty, and yet, kind of chic, for a wrap! I'm definitely a red kind of girl anyway though - it's my favorite color ;)

I hope you're still liking yours and I'll let you know what I think when mine shows up. Somehow I'm wondering if all the couch time after my fall and not being able to hold Emma for a week and half has made me baby carrier crazy! It's all I've been thinking about the past couple of days!

Did you try Leela in a front carry yet? Am curious to know how you liked it?

And is it just me, or is the Moby almost exactly the same as the Hug-a-bub, minus the pocket in front and maybe with wider straps?

I have a moby wrap in the natural color if anyone wants it. I will sell it for $26.00 (plus shipping which should be cheap by USPS as it weighs less than 2lbs). I used it once to try it on when I realized my sons chest just puffed out of it too much for my liking, although Jack was happy as a clam. I was going to trade it back to peppermint.com when I ordered the Ergo carrier but if anyone wants it just let me know!

Aarrgh! The ergo hurts my ribcage (I'm soooo short-waisted). I've posted a thread to ask for suggestions...

Ooops.. i just saw this so sorry for the late reply. I think you are going to like it Laurie... and the red is really nice. These days i am buying everything in red.. it is my new fav colour too!

I have not tried Leela in the front carry (if you mean the cross-carry with her facing fwd.... let me try it in the evening and let you know).
I think the HaB does not have tapered ends and is not as wide and has a pocket.. other than that i am not sure if it is any different (except the $$ ofcourse!). That is why i chose the Moby instead.

Laurie.. i totally understand how you mus be missing carrying Emma around.... make sure you are fully recovered before doing it though!! And thanks again for the yoga tape... i got it in the mail today!!!
