Can the Moby be used as a back carrier? I bought one on a whim yesterday from my local Craigslist, brand new and still in the package, thinking I could use it as a back carrier as I wait for my Kozy but the instructions that came with it only showed it being used as a front carrier. My son is 13 months old and around 24lbs. I already have 2 slings that I use to carry him on my hip. Does anyone use the Moby for an older infant?

I use the Moby with my 21 lb. 16.5 month old. I like it for back carries, but some people don't like them for back carries with bigger babies. I love it for front carries when she needs a nap.

Do you put her on you back by yourself? It seems almost impossible. If so, please tell me how you do it. I put him in the front carry position this morning and it was very comfortable and he seemed to like it.

My baby is younger, but a heavy guy, about 23-24 lbs at 7mo. I have used the Moby as a back carrier with DH's help, around the house. Its pretty comfy, but you have to tie it TIGHT, or DS will start to sag. I use the basic back carry from www.mamatoto.org They have animated instructions on getting your kid on your back yourself. I have a non-stretchy wrap on the way, which is shorter than the Moby. I am hoping I can get hiim up unassisted with that one.

When I first started with back carries, I used the bed or couch method: put sling on bed, put baby in sling, sit in front of baby, pull the sling tight around both of you, and then get up and finish the job.

But now I put her on my right hip while holding the fabric behind her with my arm. I slide baby to my back while leaning forward to make a shelf with my back. I slide her as far as my right arm will let her go, then I secure her with my left hand as I bring my right arm up and over her so I can move her further onto my back. When she's in the right place I complete the tying job.

Mamatoto.org does have great instructions, so I second that recommendation.

Thanks everyone! I was able to get Sophia (11 month old I babysit) into the back carry all by myself today while Conner was napping. It was pretty comfortable, but I think I could of tied it a tad tighter. I will try again with Conner when he wakes up. Thanks again.
