I'm due July 31st with my first baby. I live in Michigan, so the weather will be hot/warm for about 6-8 weeks afer she comes. I think I've decided on a KKAFP, but I'm wondering if I will NEED a KKACP for those few weeks when it will be hot? We have AC and I don't plan on being outside too much, but I was just wondering what you all thought? What has been your experience?

TIA,
Jenn

I LOVE fleece pouches for a newborn but man o man can they get HOT! Esp in the summer you will not be able to use it outside at all without sweating like crazy. Even inside with AC it'll get hot unless you have it cranked ;)
I would NOT suggest a KKACF though-they have a different shoulder than the KKAFP and are not as comfy at all. I'd suggest a www.Hotslings.com or www.luck-baby.com or www.heavenlybundle.com pouch for the warmer months. These are all nice cotton pouches that have very good reviews. They are not adjustable but even after losing 30lbs postpartum my same Hotslings fits very well so there is some room for weight loss. Another adjustable pouch is mammasmilk adjustable pouch if you think you really need that option.
And personally I think the nonadjustable pouches are more comfy than the adjustable ones since there are no pressure points or stress on different snap points.
Good luck

I don't have a KKAFP, but I want to agree with the other poster about the KKACP.

I had one and HATED it. Bad shoulder design. I ended up using my cotton Zolo ring sling for the summer instead.

I have a KKACP and a Hotsling. I guess I am in the minority. I personally loved the KKACP when my daughter was a newborn. I found it quite comfortable. Personally, I found the hotsling too shallow to have a baby in the cradle carry position, but the KKACP was great. Now that dd is older and in the hip carry position, I prefer my Hotsling.

I lived in MI when Ben was born, but it was March. He didn't like the carriers very much until he could sit up a little in them. He never liked the cradle carry too much. So, you may want to go ahead and get the KKAFP. It was great once the weather was chilly.

I am in a similar position. My baby is due August 9 and I live in Illinois. I contacted Kanagroo Korner and asked them and they told me that they would recommend the KKAFP. I also just sent them an email asking about colors (I have two dogs at home). They said I should not go dark or light. I just purchased the Cappuccino KKAFP today.

Where do I research/purchase this KKACP that is being talked about? This is also my first baby and live in Mi. like Jenny and am due Aug. 1. I was just going to get the Baby Bjorn but now I'm having second thoughts after reading this board.

Well, I started by looking at this board and reading past posts and searching the archives for carriers. I narrowed the carriers that I'd like to start with down to two styles based on function and design. (personally, I think I want a sling like the Kangaroo Korner and a wrap like the Moby.)

Here are some web pages to get you started. The first two are great for looking at various kinds of carriers and the third is the site for the Kangaroo Korner Adjustable Fleece Pouch.

Be careful - carriers can be very addicting and soon you will find yourself wanting one of every one in every color!!

Yep! They are addicting! I now have 10 carriers and most of them were acquired in the last four months thanks to some of these Web sites!

I live in MN so we get similar weather. I have the KKAFP which is really nice but I never wear it. It is way too hot for me. I would definitely go with something cotton - cotton still keeps baby warm even in the colder months. You can then just put a fleece coat on baby inside the carrier when needed:)

FWIW, I think a Hotsling would be a good choice. I have one that is too small so I need to get a bigger one. But I think that would be a good starter.

I found the Baby Bjorn killed my back and my son's feet turned blue so it just didn't work well at all for us.

Now my carrier of choice is a mei tai, but I also love my wrap and am excited to get a Hotsling that fits!
